I could be mistaken here, I'm sure @Dennis@Dennis will put me right, but I believe in the second admin Gibbs offered Julian two opinions of paying the rent, one we paid at a rate similar to the division we were in or £350,000 per year with rent increases every 5 years ?.
Julian took the second option as we were in the Championship at the time and the rent was not a major problem, then we started our drop down the leagues, then the rent became a big problem.

    Two things on that

    1. It doesn't give him the moral right to play hardball, when he subsequently didn't get his way
    2. Maybe we'd have done what AFC Wimbledon have, although I wouldn't have like it as the time. My point is that fallow 2004 to 2011 period was largely down to his actions

It's amazing that anyone thinks he would be good for the club. Ask yourself where was he before in buying the club? He now sees the green shoots of a financially viable option (quite feasible that Rupp etc, will never get any praise at time as we might only appreciate what they've done for the club when they've gone) and wants in

Never shown any interest in the club before - but now he wants in, its apparently fine because he's not the current lot

Thank goodness no-one on these boards is anywhere nearer to running City

No cheap shot at all, one chairman would not fork out for two players costing maybe £500,000 to help concrete our chance of promotion and the other playing BBB with the club.
Richmond had no money it was the Rhodes family who financed the likes of Rankin, Mills ETC, and then took massive dividends out, yes along with the Rhodes family.

That's a fair post. Ultimately, they are good businessmen and I'm getting as emotionally as extreme as those who hate Edin!! But yes, they would invest nothing. The fact they think we're a good investment shows the improvement already in our finances that the current board have created

"In fairness to Richmond"- what often gets overlooked was the collapse of setanta tv deal badly affected the club when we were relegated.
Just think what huddersfield will get from sky as their parachute payment if/when they fall out of the premier league.

    Oh common Park...
Millions that didn’t come out of his pocket though did it. It was club sponsorship by his businesses and probably set against tax

For me GR will always be the Master of PR.
He sold the fans and sponsors a Dream that just kept on giving, and giving more still.
Yes he (or rather WE) suffered his 6 weeks of madness, but what a ride it's been. :) I bet Gibbs theme park has NOWT that comes close ! ;)

But he had the vision. That's the point. Would I want Tordoff or Richmond - it would be the latter every time, simply because I'm not interested in staying in L1 forever

In reality though, I'm also not interested in taking financial risks - which is why I like the cut of the current owners jib

I don't care if the thread is going off topic and is going to turn into another anti Rahic thread, this is ridiculous. England haven't been successful at this years World Cup because they are giving youngsters a chance or have a model which revolves around youth. Our current World Cup squad are genuinely the best group players we have in the country and they just happen to be young. There's no comparison between that and our owners philosophy. You're too blinkered to see that though.

Incorrect. Are you telling me Allardyce will have selected the same group of (obviously the best players) and played them? Ok try this. It's about having a policy, being brave enough to stick to it. That's similar

We could go on forever but is this the same Jack Tordoff who along with Stafford saved our club in 1983, and the same Geoffry Richmond who took us into our first administration no matter if that was down to ITV digital deal or not.
