Another thing I’d like to know is how many of the people who are now rioting voted in the last election in America? How many even filled in the census they were sent by the government?
Until they do that it’s hard to go about change. They need a voice. They need to nominate people from their communities into positions and vote for them. This is Tony Timpa , Tony suffered from Schizophrenia .
In August 2016 he rang 911 in a distressed condition he'd forgotten his medication and was adgitated , Police dispatched 3 officers who duly arrived , and despite a store security guard already handcuffing him the Police pinned him to the ground , a para- medic arrived and administered a sedative . The police were mocking him and telling him it was " time to go to school " , "Mummy will be upset if you're late" . They then pinned him to the ground and laughed when he complained he couldn't breath , they only stopped when he stopped talking . Tony was dead , the 3 officers stood away . The family had eventually to take out a private indicment against the police and mayoral office , despite police body cam footage and high witness accounts District Attorney John Creuzot dismissed the case , after a short period all 3 returned to work .

I think the parameters with which we discuss racism generally are quite warped, and the discourse tends toward the sensational. In particular I think the aspect of ‘white guilt’ is totally misunderstood - and has fuelled this movement towards the tokenistic gestures we’re seeing from brands and politicians who have suddenly found themselves this safe space within which to express the bare minimum of sentiments.

This article by Gary Younge is a fantastic read, from a very lucid and insightful writer. You don’t necessarily have to agree with all of it, but it expresses a lot of the sort of thing I would otherwise clumsily attempt to put forward, and completely shuns the sort of barbarised metaphor that we’ve seen a lot of lately:

It is indeed a very interesting side-topic, but yes, there is a long ways to go in terms of the research.
