Where is the evidence that there is a genetic element? Has the gene been identified, has the interaction of this gene with other genes been understood along with environmental factors and that of chance?

I know you use the word MAY, however suggesting that a particular group of people may have a particular gene to influence their behaviour (based upon their race) is a very slippery slope. This is very different to the fact that certain genes have been isolated as the cause of certain illnesses, for example the sickle cell gene.

Why do they both have white faces? Not very representative of a diverse culture is it?

It was rather confusing he looks very similar . This though sums up the hypocrisy surrounding the BLM movement , this guy is black he as served his country then gets butchered in the street and his death posted all over social media . No MSM outrage , no protests , no nothing it beggers the question do BLM ?. They build a career criminal up into the new Messiah , a man jailed for armed robbery and assault on a pregnant women , yet a man whos done nothing but help his community is cast away and forgotten about .

    Shelby.jpg

This is the face of modern Britain , Shelby Alawani , telling off british army cadets for cleaning graffiti of war memorials . This poor little rich girl went viral . she's lost her job - she's disappeared from all social media , but she's had her 15 mins of fame all over the world . Hope her family and friends are really proud of her . Is this really whats happening world over ? Anti- facist , but defaceing memorials for the real freedom fighters who paid the ultimate price to give her and those like her the freedom to protest in London over something not in anyway relevent in the UK .

We all on here love our football club but you perhaps can tell us what the f they are protesting about that equates to our lawful peaceful way of life that all decent folk aspire to...

Thank you. It's a crucial discussion and there are a range of opinions which should be heard. I strongly believe though, that when it comes to a complex discussion like this it needs to be driven by fact rather than labels and hyperbole.

I agree, nice to read a balanced viewpoint rather than the usual rhetoric we seem to be bombarded with.

Just because i don't agree with the ramblings of a half wit on a message board doesn't mean i and i suspect others bury their head in the sand. Its not something i waste too much time thinking about, it was here before i was born and will be here long after i've gone. Thats not to say i think its right but honestly with this pandemnic and just trying to survive, i've far more important things to think about.

More concerning behaviour than what? Desecrating war memorials and a statue of Churchill? Assaulting police officers? Rioting, looting etc. Is that not concerning enough? The churchill statue is encased in a concrete block, as is the war memorial on Whitehall. If they could have been toppled easily, I'd wager they would have been.

Identity politics, SJW chaos brought to bear. This is what happens when the left goes too far.

All sides are guilty of hypocrisy of the highest degree to a point where i switch off from whats happening. The Morgan Gardner scenario summed it up perfectly. Morgan berates one man for attending an event but then praises another for doing exactly the same thing.

Its a shame that the great progress made in the last 20 years seems to be being lost in this issue at the minute. On the sentence in bold, I think we generally do a very good job of this, more so than the vast majority of countries. We're one of the most tolerant, balanced and equal countries in the world. Do prejudices still exist? Sure, they always will. In every country and against every demographic you care to name. And we should do what we can to minimize those prejudices further. That's very different from the idea that we're a fundamentally, systemically racist country.

And on the question of 'which cultures', given that the most vocal narrative at the minute is 'black oppression', then I think a balanced conversation would include the cultural and sub-cultural factors that are fundamental components of where black communities are most vulnerable. Maybe its me, but my general approach on anything that I feel aggrieved by is an examination of what I can do directly to better my situation. To take personal responsibility. And then within my family, a collective responsibility. And I don't assume that any negative encounter I have with the state is based on my race, or gender, or sexuality. I'd argue that there are cultural issues within 'the black community' that are pivotal to the debate. Issues that are entirely agnostic of racial oppression. For example, and to your point - does having black skin make someone more likely to fall into poverty and crime? In and of itself, no. Of course it doesn't. But the fact is that both here and the US, rates of crime and poverty are higher in black communities. You're more likely to have violent encounters with the police if you're more likely to commit violent crime. You're more likely to commit violent crime if you're more likely to commit crime generally and live in violent surroundings. You're more likely to commit crime and live in violent surroundings if you're growing up in poverty and in single parent families - poverty and single parent families are an interwoven mix. And both here and in the US, the rate of single parent families is around 2.5-3 times higher in black than white communities. Are there other factors that cause poverty? Of course, but they apply across the board. Single parenthood is much less stigmatized than it was but the data is pretty clear - kids growing up in single parent families are less likely to succeed in school, more likely to suffer mental health and development issues and more likely to turn to crime. I can't think of any reasonable argument as to why 'systemic racism' has anything to do with why black kids are much more likely to grow up in broken homes than white kids. And it perpetuates the whole poverty/crime cycle, generation by generation.

I'm not sure we've sleepwalked into it Tony, there have been warning signs for many a years but they were classed as odd balls and take no notice, someone needs to get some balls and stop these mass gatherings, even given they would normally have a right to protest these are not normal times they obviously have no respect for others.
Then again that IMO sum's today's modern society up, I'm alright Jack, and some were going ballistic with regards Dominic Cummings, strange how many are not criticising these gatherings.

Regarding the statues which serve as a (bad) memory to people. In this regard, shouldn't Auschwitz now be taken apart and deleted from memory?
(In my opinion, no it should not. It serves as living history of something that was terribly wrong.)
