    Just don't have it mate.

This lockdown could happen again in November? Then what?

I just don't see the point in concentrating on next season. The chief reporter on Sky has just said PL clubs are not even thinking about next season or the transfer window. Fans will not be thinking about season tickets when most are thinking about their finances now.

I just don't see the point in thinking about next season at all. Let's give people hope we can get a little bit of the light at the end of this dark tunnel.

Why would clubs not be thinking about next season?

Another advantage of deferring to a November start is that you can plan contingencies in advance - reduction of cup competitions, remove the mid season break, pricing structure for any games that need to be played indoors, you can build clauses into commercial contracts etc.

Why not just end the season in Oct then? Start the new one in December?

There are all sorts of impacts to consider to pushing next season back - but in the case of finishing this season, then starting another soon after - run in a shorter timeframe - then straight into a summer tournament, player injury and fatigue will be a huge problem. Players aren't robots.

    Oh behave mate.

Players want to play football. They won't care if they had to play every 3 days.

Next season isn't even important and you can figure solutions out for next season. Finish this season then concentrate on next. Simple.

I think starting a 20/21 league on 21st November 2020, would run into the summer of 2021, at least the end of June, when the rescheduled Euro 2021 will take place. In reality by the third week of November most clubs in League Two have played something like 17/18 games. To try and squeeze that in before the start of the Euro’s is nigh on impossible. This year it was scheduled to take place between 11/6/2020 and 11/7/2020.

You also have the FA Cup, what do you suggest should happen? I can see the League Cup (Carabao) and the EFL Trophy Cup, being cancelled. However you still do not have enough time. What happens when clubs like Colchester cancel games because their players are called up by Malta, Montserrat and Guyana?

Perhaps the best way is to finish the current season, perhaps by early January. Then the Play Offs through January. Have a winter break and then perhaps a regional ‘short’ league akin to the Conference with just one match between teams, based on an alternate game system i.e. Week 1 home, week 2 away and so on. That would be 11 fixtures which could fit in before the Euro’s and allow football to start a ‘normal’ season in August 2021.

If the season starts late then I think all the cup completions may be scrapped. The FA Cup creates a lot of games for those lower down.

The FA cup is clearly run by a different organisation to the Football League.

I struggle to see the FA dropping the competition without a fight.

It will generate significant income for them.

Not sure if the smaller clubs who are members of the Football Association, would readily agree to forgoing their chance of a ‘day in the Big Time’. You know the Guiseley, Halifax, Eccleshill United, Brighouse Towns, etc of this world.

A potential massive windfall for them.

Get rid of the carabao cup and leasing.com trophy since less people care about them.

Remove replays from the FA cup first and second round where its predominantly L1 and L2 clubs playing each other anyway.

The trouble is that there are probably approaching a 1,000 clubs who are eligible to enter the FA Cup.

“This year, 736 teams took part overall with 644 taking part in the qualifying competition and 124 teams playing in the main competition”. https://www.oddsmonkey.com/blog/sports-guides/fa-cup-2020-guide/
They play a number of preliminary qualifying rounds which start in August, to see if they can reach the FA Cup proper in November.

The following is a cut from the manager of Brighouse Town.
“A good run also puts a few quid in the club’s coffers, so it’s all good.”
Brighouse scooped £1,925 for winning their preliminary round clash at West Didsbury & Chorlton.
First round qualifying victors get £3,000 apiece and Quinn added: “The prize money cranks up quote quickly. There are four qualifying rounds, and I remember Emley finally getting to the first round proper after a few years of trying’. https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/fa-cup-big-thing-brighouse-7726554

Here are some of the clubs who are members of the FA (n.b. Brighouse are not on that list, so probably there are 100’s more eligible to enter). http://www.thefa.com/~/media/files/thefaportal/governance-docs/rules-of-the-association/2013-14/full-member-clubs.ashx

In reality this is not straightforward and will need a great deal of thought. Personally, then at present, I cannot see a ‘condensed’, full ‘standard’ season, starting at the end of November 2020, being squeezed in.

I've just re-read my post, meant to type first and second round replays, not get rid of the whole two rounds!

More evidence that the PFA aren't fit for purpose:

Especially embarrassing when you look at what the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Barcelona and Juventus have done.

The PFA are throwing the players under the bus. The PFA should cover some of the wages as they've loads of money.

However, what I don't like is Matt Hancock aka Mr bollocks telling people they should take a pay cut when he isn't doing so himself and neither are any of the government including Boris.

    So what!

Don't tell people they should take a pay cut. It's wrong in my mind unless you're doing it yourself.

He's the one now that needs to step up for communities not football clubs.

A lot of footballers have been giving money to foodbanks etc has he?

The PFA have messed up I agree but leave it to them. Hammer the PFA don't tell people to take a pay cut when it's the conservatives that left everything too late and we're in this mess because of them.

What next Beckham should give a load of his money to the NHS as well?

Just pointing out something you may not have noticed :(.

You seem to be contradicting yourself, saying players are donating to food banks then ask should Beckham give loads of money to the NHS, it wouldn't surprise me if Becks hasn't already donated, him and their lass Vicky aren't short of a bob or two.

Yes great gesture from the likes of Pep Guardiola donating 1m euro's and Gary Neville giving his hotels up for NHS use.
