See that all players and staff have now been put onto furlough leave.
80% of all salaries paid by the government to a max of £2,500 per month, with the club covering the 20%.
    Best all round I think.

A sensible move all round. Fair play to the Government and Footballing bodies for their financial and practical support in the circumstances, and fair play to the club for topping up the 80% wage contribution to give everyone at the club their full salary.

Is it all players and staff? I’ve read the statement a few times and can’t figure it out? Poorly worded as it mentions it in the opening paragraph then just mentions staff further down?

Just listened to Ryan Sparks on radio leeds and it seems like it's all players and staff.

apparently so, but as they are making the wage up they may be allowed to ask them to do training, not sure.

Thanks. Read the article and was confused and then saw Parker’s tweet and he mentions staff only.

Definitely a sensible move by the club.
Even before the present uncharted waters we have obviously learnt lesson's from past financial issues at our club.
If it means we survive and jobs are protected for now, hats off to the officials at the club.
    Stay safe everyone.

    Makes sense.

    All clubs should do it.

Nope. The only way the players can train is if they aren’t being Furloughed but rather they take a voluntary pay cut (which the PFA is telling players to decline any such move)

Problem is for players especially at higher levels the £2500 is peanuts so doesn’t help and it means players simply won’t be anywhere near fit enough when football resumes. And if the season continues but has to be played over a shorter period like is being suggested it could even be dangerous to the players.

It needs the PFA to stop being unreasonable and actually encourage players to voluntary take pay cuts. That way the players can still be given personalised training regimes that they can do away from the training ground (or as some clubs are doing at the training ground but with isolation procedures in place), clubs save money while they aren’t making any income and the players still get some money to live on

But any player worth his salt will surely embrace appropriate training plans. As 'advice' if not 'instruction'

How can a professional athlete complete a training regime from in their home or by doing 1 form of exercise per day?

I thought that and originally posted that they couldn’t but then I double checked the government website and it said you could ask them to do training as long as you paid them at least NMW for the time taken

If your employee does volunteer work or training
A furloughed employee can take part in volunteer work or training, as long as it does not provide services to or generate revenue for, or on behalf of your organisation.

However, if workers are required to for example, complete online training courses whilst they are furloughed, then they must be paid at least the NLW/NMW for the time spent training, even if this is more than the 80% of their wage that will be subsidised.

Well Messi and Ronaldo will be ok in their billion pound homes but I doubt the likes of Danny Devine will have anything more than a flat. He probably lives at home with his dad.

Not the same as being in a professional environment clearly, but you can achieve much by running outdoors and body weight/improvised resistance training in your home.
