You and I may think they need to step back, but they don't. They know exactly what they are doing. The inflammatory language is calculated and deliberate. The phoney controversy about Lineker is calculated and deliberate.
It's the oldest Tory trick in the book - blame the foreigners. Whenever they are facing defeat in the polls they do it. It's a deliberate policy designed to stoke up race hatred to distract people from the fecking awful mess they've made of running this country over the last thirteen years.

It will end at Radio Leeds, mate.

Just go to the T&A or official club website.

Alternatively, stay on Twitter and just click on Simon Parker instead of Jamie Raynor.

Sanity will prevail next week, and even if Davie doesn't resign (which he absolutely should), the BBC have a lot of backtracking to do. They're already admitting they've got it wrong and are 'listening', it couldn't be much clearer that they accept they've got it all wrong.

Time for everyone else to draw the same conclusions that Davie and the BBC are drawing themselves, and not live in denial.

Yes, but luckily, the BBC can't afford to be this brazen, even if it's a standard part of the Conservative party playbook.

I care less what the Tories say about foreigners (we've heard it all before, and they're not equipped to deal with the issues they pretend are so pressing), and more concerned with the way the BBC have handled this.

The Tories have always planned to deconstruct the BBC. The chairman and the Director General are both members of the Tory Party. This scenario with Lineker falls neatly into their playbook.

If Radio Leeds have paid Bradford City for the writes to cover our games I would assume within that agreement was a clause that said our manager and players would do pre match interviews and post match interviews I know in the past the likes of Adams and I believe Hopkin sent players out to do them, but if Hughes refuses to do them could Radio Leeds tell the club they are not honouring their side of the deal after all Hughes is employed by Bradford City.

The BBC could probably cut ties with all of football right about now if they so chose, but I bet they don't lol

Firstly let's be honest here this isn't the first time he has done this, it's a regular thing including being found guilty by an independent enquiry of being in breach of impartiality rules in October last year.

And the problem with him is
    1. Unlike Lord Sugar (or previously Clarkson), he is employed directly by the BBC, who is indirectly employed. That automatically makes Linekers comments more linked to the BBC than then

    2. He actually has more sway with the masses than say, Andrew Neil. Someone who watches Andrew Neil is much more likely to knowledgeable about politics than the average person that follows Lineker. It highlights the issue we have right now where Joey Essex or Gemma Collins could make a political statement and the idiots who follow them with no questions asked would take it as fact without challenging it. You could argue that the likes of Lineker actually have a greater responsibility to pick their words right as they are talking to a more easily influenced audience.

    3. The BBC are in a difficult position right now. With more options on what to watch people are expecting output tailored to them. Rather than put the kind of thing they are world-renowned for they are having to mix it with broader more populist stuff and even then there is more and more pressure on the licence fee. It also puts pressure on what they pay staff. Lineker is one of the highest paid (but paid way less than commercial equivalents) and gets plenty of complaints about how much he is paid. So when he says something that is likely to upset half of their audience it's difficult for them. As we have recently seen with Clarkson even commercial outlets often feel the need to cut ties when they make comments that divide the audience.

    4. Linekers language was fairly incendiary. You can make a point about both the UK's general immigration policy or even this policy on illegal immigrants but he used language that he knew would cause controversy. I can't think of anything specifically with Andrew Neil but I suspect anything where he expressed an opinion was a lot more nuanced. When you do it like Lineker here or when you are the likes of Clarkson or Morgan you know what you are doing and know you may force your employers hand

Just watching the programme now and it’s quite refreshing to not have the usual forced puns at the start of the programme and the usual inane, insipid punditry that they normally have.
No Murphy,Jenas,Richards etc is no great loss in my opinion.

    The king of nuance.

I follow Andrew Neil and like him, and usually he's nuanced, but he's even more prone to being a tosser than Lineker.

He's a well known drinker and late night tweeter, and a few bypass his filters.

Hughes & players refuse to speak to BBC in support of Gary Lineker. Pity as I look forward to hearing their views.

As you say quite refreshing to just see the highlights of Premiership games and form our own opinions on what we've seen.

Was it the manager or the club that made that decision?

Club I'd imagine unless Hughes decides who does what at BD8.

This issue is not really about illegal immigrants however people feel about that it’s about free speech. And unless someone is spouting hatred or abuse they should be free to say what they like. Left right or centre
