MOTD to have no presenter, pundits, regular commentators, or player interviews.

Football Focus pulled just an hour before scheduled to go on air.

This afternoons Final Score also pulled as presenter confirms he will not do today's show.

BBC Radio 5 LIVE programs also cancelled.

And all this because an ex-footballer posted a few words on social media regarding an illegal Government policy.

Well my guess is every one of them have broken their contracts and are at risk of having their contracts terminated if they have the balls to do. Apparently “the people’s Gary”!has weeping in the face of all his support. Well Gary you had better tell them to get into work as I am guessing they don’t have millions in the bank.

    Massively.

Whatever you think of the UK Government or Lineker's opinion, this is really about Freedom of Speech. A pro Government corporation that pretends to be impartial.

This is not about Freedom of Speech. It is about signing an impartiality contract. You agree to honour your employer’s code of conduct and not bring it into disrepute. No one made him sign it. I was a public servant and also could not bring the Council into disrepute, I saw two ppl who were sacked.

Why does Alan Sugar get away with offensive political tweets or Andrew Neil when he worked for the BBC?

Rubbish. They only enforce it when it suits them. There are countless examples of BBC employees giving opinions on Political issues and nothing being done.

The difference here is that the UK Government didn't like it and undoubtedly put pressure on the BBC to act.

No need to rehire as they'll lose the PL rights anyway.

Has he brought the BBC into disrepute though? He hasn't, as far as I am aware, broken the law. He has expressed an opinion in his own time which the Government disagrees with. It is absolutely clear that he is expressing an opinion as an individual, not for the BBC.

The impartiality agreement for councils is on the basis, normally, that your role may involve engagement with councillors or the delivery of services on behalf of a ruling political party. Quite different again from someone presenting a football show.

I also cannot understand how Andrew Neil, for example, was able to be presenting on the BBC whilst still maintaining an active social media presence that clearly sets out his political viewpoint. I disagree with a lot of his views, however he is, for me, a terrific political journalist who performed his role on the BBC well.

This is the Government exerting political pressure on the BBC. Probably as a useful distraction from other topics.

The BBC said no further action, but the plank formally know as Lineker decided he would put his two fingers up. He said not only would he not apologise but would say what he wants. Rather tied their hands didn’t he. No employer is going put up with that.

I disagree he has brought the BBC impartiality rules into disrepute. The Council contract is about behaviour when you are not working, your behaviour must not fall below the standards the Council decree.
I have no idea about Andrew Neil and his contract and what was agreed.
Of course he hasn’t broken the Law and he is entitled to his view but not while working for the BBC.

    Thanks for the reply.

We clearly disagree, but I'm not going to spend all afternoon arguing about it!

Not sure how I'll cope no MOTD the experts who when they got chance to become football managers made a pigs ear of it, Shearer, Neville,Scholes,Henry,Sutton who;s only on for his outrageous comments, Micah Richards for being the forum clown I have far more respect for the likes of Keane, Souness, etc who have done the job and had various levels of success/failure.

Not really about that anymore though is it?

Over the past few years we've seen our right to say what we believe slowly taken away. Censorship on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook has become worse and worse. FIFA banning players from speaking or doing anything to highlight Qatar human rights abuse. And while we're on that subject, the BBC were more than happy to ignore their own impartiality rules to criticise the Qatari Government back then weren't they?

But what Lineker said was ridicules wasn't it, does he seriously believe the situation with regards the channel crossing is as bad as Germany in the 30s his right to say it must be defended but apart from his buddies he's made a fool of himself with regards his comment.
