Lineker is employed by the BBC on a freelance basis

Just my opinion, but I don't see why we as a club need to get involved in this. If BBC Leeds had chosen not to do post match interviews then fine, no issue with us supporting it, but I don't think we should have taken this stance unilaterally. Did any other clubs do the same do we know?

Pathetic stance by whoever at City made this decision.

BBC Radio Leeds do a fine job covering City, more so since Pulse were taken over and coverage stopped on that channel.

What this has to do with that smug leftie on MOTD I don't know.

I liked it, watched it this morning. Thank you @SimonW@SimonW for a very good an in-depth analysis on this subject. Gary Lineker is perfectly entitled to his views, but he must not express them whilst working for the BBC.

If the BBC decide to back down, the are done in my view. The reason they are in this mess in the first place is they have allowed or not dealt with them adequately; presenters have been allowed to express their views on Twitter and other platforms. You cannot have the state broadcaster demanding the licence fee or be prosecuted and have lax guidelines on political opinions expressed by presenters. It is clear to me that ppl do not understand impartiality and are confusing it with free speech. Not surprising given the slip sliding and confusion the BBC employ when tackling this issue. Responses to my Twitter input also is alarming in that they believe the Government have done this and the BBC allowed themselves to be bullied.
As I say, not sure how the DG gets around this because he genuinely is between a wall and a hard place. Lineker is playing hard ball, and will demand his contract is paid up, and the BBC will have a hard job of convincing any Court that they are employing a consistent response. If the DG gets sacked, there is a case then for the Government to say, the BBC must find itself.

Not according to the Tax Office. There is a case not to employ significant ppl in high profile roles within the BBC not to be employed as feeelance.

I don’t support any political party so have absolutely no agenda. The three top men at the BBC are Tory party Members. There should be no problem at all in a sports presenter giving a point of view on a his own twitter account. This whole issue has been built up from a nothing story to front page. And it won’t end well for the BBC

It started way before 1932, though, didn’t it? With language used to get a depressed and beleaguered nation to scapegoat all there problems by dehumanising minorities. It’s plainly obvious to anyone with half a brain, that Lineker was calling out the language.

I agree that, what Lineker said regarding the language used, his tweet was factually correct.

However, it was worded with the intention to provoke and provoke it certainly has.

According to @Onside@Onside she said both Leeds and Town entertained the BBC I assume by that both teams gave post match interviews, I'm with you keep politics out of our club, maybe the club should make it known if it was Mark Hughes call or was it Ryan Sparks?.

This constant virtue signalling including the laughable knee bending will one day have quite an adverse affect within all sport ....

Yes but he is wrong. Yes the 1930’s Germany did that. However, you can hardly say that Suella Bravermans language or intention was the same. I don’t remember German Nazi’s putting the ppl they designated as inhuman into hotels and giving them money. The opposite was the case, they threw them out of their homes for a pittance and left them to fend for themselves. I also couldn’t see Nazi’s rescuing them from the sea more likely to push them under. What he said was extremely offensive to a lot of ppl but that is not what is at issue here. It his refusal to acknowledge that his personal views cannot be aired on social media whilst working at the BBC. In my view this could well be the beginning of the end for the BBC.
@Park bantam@Park bantam there has been a revolving door at the BBC for political parties to have their man in a position of oversight. Blair had several.

Whats going on is much more troubling than you make out.

Andrew Neil - editor of the Spector whilst on the BBC free to express his views.

Alan sugar - free to suggest corbyn is a nazi on twitter, free to express his views and still does the apprentice.

Whats so horrid about all this is Gary suggests the policy is akin to 1930s germany and then the government/BBC do exactly what 1930s germany would do… cant wait for this horrid far right gov to get booted out…

Id imagine it was Mark Hughes decision not to speak to the BBC. Sparks doesn't decide who does the post match interviews, so I wouldn't expect him to tell Hughes who he can and can't speak to.
