I suppose Managers must make the decisions on who they play.

    Being liked isn’t everything.

A bit like attractive football and defeats, or ‘grinding out’ the wins. At the moment l would go for the latter.

As l said l wait to see how he performs. Lets see the evidence with our own eyes whilst he is playing competitive football for City

What's worrying is, O'Connor was both shite as well as entirely unlikable.

Yet no manager binned him off - where does that leave Riley?

Christ, there must be something badly wrong there for a lad on a three year deal to be absolutely nowhere near the team under multiple managers.

A ideal div 2 signing not league one if that makes sense

And to think the reason he didn't agree to come to us earlier when Greg enquired about him in January was because he fancied his chances of getting into the first team at Man U.

Sad to say, I think his future is more likely to be FC United, than Man U!

No big sell on bonus here!

I agree big time with this. Especially if your offer includes incentives etc. You’d want to know as a perspective signing if those incentives ie promotion were realistic or not

It will be hard to get rid of him with two years left on his contract.

You have to hope the sheer volume of games he's played will factor into someone being interested.

If he's got a good agent, they could even pretend the SPL is a higher level than League Two.

It’s Interesting that both Parky and now Bowyer seem to put great store in looking at the character of any potential signings. But without knowing the guy personally it seems that OConnor might have slipped through the net

Poor characters will always out themselves.

I'll be happier when we sign a second CB, mind - it will signal that O'Connor is either a bencher, or on his way.

Wow watching that video I'm surprised he's not a regular in the England team.

    Patience is a virtue .....;)

Whilst a good clip, 'every dog has it's day' ! A shame there aren't more similar clips to endorse his ability. :(

I know it doesn’t mean much, but he was very well thought of at United, at U23/U21 level. He was a captain, also.

Like I’ve said in another thread, most of the players last season were utter gash. Funny that, you usually just get a handful. We can point our finger at one man until the cows come home, but the fact is, the players need to take a good long, hard look at themselves.

Those players who are still under contract for this season should be allowed a clean slate. We have a very good team on paper - and I know that won’t go down well with a few of you - truth hurts.

A lot of truth in all that, BE ........... But such is / was our squad, that those players taking a hard look at themselves, will only see any good, not failings.
Joe Riley was well thought of at Man Utd ................ By himself.

Well, from the selected highlights in that video, he certainly looks quick and powerful. If he hits the ground running, he could become a fans favourite, looks an upgrade on the too laid back NKP anyhow

He looks quick which is what we have lacked, Looks committed in the tackle and can see why he may miss games with injuries, But looks good in the air and a commanding figure so hopefully just what we need. Just need an organiser at the back with him now to make the best out of him, someone who is 6,5 with a football brain should be easy to find :)

The “truth” only hurts when it’s not true, as in this case. A very good team you say? Really? I see a player that got released from his club in Scotland and no record of any note. He also had an attitude problem and still has. We have no decent left-back. On the other side we have a player who is a decent footballer and we need to keep him fit, because the alternative has only ever played at kids football level. So just half of the back 4 are good enough, let alone cover.

Moving on to the middle of the park, who have we got really? Devine has done very little since first breaking in to the side. Wright has done nothing in his career, other than 1 good season at Gills and then we have Akpan who got relegated with Burton and struggled at times last season, plus Anderson if he signs.

We have 3 wingers on the books; one spent most of the season and for that matter, most seasons injured, one not selectable due to an allegation against him and the other is a kid trying to break through.

And up top, we have Doyle who has shown glimpses throughout his career, but only glimpses. Partnering him is a player that had a good 4mths prior to our signing him. He did nothing for us and was then loaned out where, despite the occasional wonder goal, didn’t pull up many trees for Lincoln and his minutes played reflect this.

A very good team you say? Ummm, we’ll have to agree to diasagree
