The Bantams have kick-started their summer recruitment drive after completing the signing of defender Ben Richards-Everton.

The 6ft 5ins centre-back has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, which will keep him at the Northern Commercials Stadium until at least the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Richards-Everton, who has spent the last two seasons with Accrington and helped Stanley earn promotion to Sky Bet League One in 2018, arrives as manager Gary Bowyer’s first signing since himself penning a two-term contract with City.

The former Dunfermline player said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here. When I first found out about the interest, I spoke to Gary (Bowyer) and was keen to come and sign for such a fantastic club.

“I played against Bradford last season, for Accrington, and the stature of the club was clear to see. It shouldn’t be in this position, going into League Two, but the manger will get the right players in and we will look to move straight back up.

“We had a great changing room at Accrington in the season we got promoted from League Two. It is something you need.

“I like to be dominant on the field and win every game I play in. I will do everything I can for this club.

“I am really looking forward to playing in front of a huge crowd here when I get the opportunity to. I saw it on New Year’s Day and the atmosphere was fantastic. The supporters here are a real credit to Bradford City.”

City manager Bowyer added: “Ben is a good character and I was very impressed when I met him.

“He will give us some size in our back four, he is quick and can also operate at left-back.

“Ben knows how to get out of League Two and we need that kind of mentality in our dressing room.

“He had attracted attention from other clubs but Ben expressed a desire to come and play here.

“Ben was excited by the number of season tickets we have sold and is a player who will thrive in great atmospheres.”

Richards-Everton will officially become a Bradford City player on July 1 - when his contract with Accrington Stanley expires. The agreement is subject to standard EFL and FA clearances.

Decent enough signing for me no nonsense defender who is quick as well being tall. Surprised Accy didn't keep him.

Sounds like a player we lacked last season. But I will want and see how he performs.

Ben Richards, he sounds like a running man.

17 starts last season. 6 wins (no clean sheets) 4 losses (including 3 nil to us) 7 draws.

Of those 17 starts he played 6 at CB, 4 at LB and 3 at RB... not sure about the rest as no data.

In terms of injuries, he had knee surgery in 2016 and missed 5 games. Also shoulder injury in 2017, think he missed about 4 games.

Hopefully It'll be similar to how Killgallon could play at left back but was more effective at centre half.

6'5" fullbacks though? Could be a team of giants!

You can't go wrong with double barrelled names. They're always quality. We didn't even need to scout this kid, I've heard all I need to hear.

Tbf, the fact that he's not NKP is enough. Get him in the team.

He wasn't good when Stanley came here last season but their fans are disappointed to lose him which is always a good sign.

Turned down a new deal to drop down and sign for us, presumably for more starts?

    Oh dear.

He’s only played 20 games a season for the past FIVE seasons due to injuries.

    Have we not learned anything?

Anymore bloody negatives? I've started to slowly stop reading this forum, all we get is moaners. The old season is done and dusted. It's a new start, new signings, bloody get behind the team and stop knocking them before they've even pulled the shirt on!

It's not about big names this season, it's about big characters. Hes experienced both in England and Scotland, still young at 25, a regular starter for Stanley when they got promoted from L2, versatile and a 6'5" monster. Offered a new contract by Stanley but turned it down to join us. That to me is a good start to the recruitment in my book.

He’s 28 this year, not 25, and he’s played 20 games a season for 5 seasons in a row. That’s roughly a third of all matches, it doesn’t sound great.

Ben wasn’t released by Accrington. They were in contract talks with him

The fact a club in a higher league offered him a new contract to stay with them gives me more optimism about this signing than you then

Purely going off what Accrington fans have to say about him and the fact that he offers us some much needed height at the back I'd say its a good signing.

Interesting how he turned them down for us, but Accy always operate on a small budget so can’t have been to hard to persuade. Just a shame we couldn’t do a straight swap for half our squad.
