Can't disagree with any of that. Our current squad of contracted players, with the exception of 2 perhaps 3, is not only poor on paper, it's even worse on the pitch. No characters or leaders at the back or in midfield. That said, I do have every faith in Bowyer to add the qualities needed for this season, yet the current crop on paper (new signings aside) would be relegation fodder for me next season too.

 

I think parts of last seasons squad mixed in with the right signings would be OK until Bowyer can get entirely his own team

 

Note he did say his business would be over 2 windows.

No other option really @Park bantam. Theres no way we'll be able to get rid of all of them, let's hope Bowyer gets the blend right. The likes of Mellor, possibly Akpan, Scannell and Doyle (if the last 2 stay) could play a big part next season. Add to those correctly then who knows. The high earning bad eggs need shifting for the good of the team spirit and team ethic. That's where Bowyers real skill will be needed

 

While fully understanding that this is the footballing version of a Greatest Hits album there were some rather pleasing tackles shown. Full blooded and well timed, two qualities that have been sadly lacking of late.

 

The problem never was the individuals within the squad, it was how those individuals were put together, the regime managing these individuals and the idiot at the very top having absolutely no idea at all about any aspect of running a football club. There are certain players such as NKP and Riley who i don't think warrant being at the club now, you could arguably add Wright to that list. But that squad as it stood last year lacked vital parts , like having an engine with half the pistons missing. Add those vital ingredients and those players lacked looked gash last season don't look half as bad. For instance we might see a different O'Donnell with a half decent defence in front of him, we might be lucky and get Doyle to look like a striker whose played at a higher level with a the right players and a game plan.

 

Totally agree with this. Let’s hope GB is a very good chef and can make use of some of our more exotic ingredients!! What worries me the most is toxicity from last season and given we still have about half of the squad with us, how this subsides and or is eliminated.

Our demise was forecast the minute the pre-season team line ups and results came in. City lacked any structure from the word GO. Just as a team believes and embraces success, a poorly assembled group will do likewise, negatively. Not only did Rahic dismantle a solid base, he managed, unchallenged, to map out Citys immediate future. Not just on the pitch, but in the offices and on the terraces, too.

 

But thats not the fault of the individuals, thats the point i was making. Take them out of the toxic environment of Valley Parade and we more than likely see a different player. On the other side of the coin look at players that left us after Wembley. How many of them went on to better themselves. Only Meredith, others like Law even dropped a division. Yet they got to a Wembley play off final because the sum of the parts worked (despite Rahic) and a manager they believed in. As Bradford End stated everyone currently at the club now starts with a clean slate. I have my doubts with some players but need to see what a new regime does for them.

Scannell has played 325 games in his career yes like lots of players of his type he gets injured but the figures show he plays plenty

Perhaps. But although I consider myself educated, I still try to read and comprehend the scribes of those who maybe below that level. Many can communicate very well, verbally, but struggle in the written situation.
It is not not for me to judge my fellow man for expressing themselves, be they understood, or not.

I wish O'Connor would follow him out. he's the least likeable player we've had in years.

 

It does appear opinions are divided with some fans dissapointed he has left and others not so bothered.
