Government has made a total mess of the situation and continues to do so, there policy seems to be to stick a finger in the leaking dam wall and hope that will stop the leak?

I am not sure we will get much help from the premier league any time soon.
Because Fulham were promoted via the play offs they no longer need the second set of parachute payments, around 34 million. The efl asked for this to distribute it to cash strapped clubs as it was going out of the premier league anyway if Fulham stayed down.
The premier league has rejected it and will now redistribute to its own 20 clubs. Says it all really

The premier league has no interest whatsoever in the football league, if it could i would expect it to break away and form its own league altogether along the lines of a buy in franchise model. Its purely business run and the EFL business model simply hemerrhages money. If you want to know where football is heading Wolves have just signed a player for £35 million, £9 million which goes in agents fees. At the top level football is turning into an elite sport like formula one, a far cry from its beginnings.

i agree. I don’t mind the top clubs paying stupid transfer fees. You look at Man City and Man U etc they generate around half a billion a season in revenue anyway.
It’s things like this that annoy me. It’s pure greed.

It's been clear from the start of this period that the PL will look primarily after the interests of its own. They have ignored the requests from DMCS to take a wider view and provide help to the football sector more generally. I understand that it will be slightly tougher after Sky played hard ball with them over the TV contract and then they had the problems with the Chinese TV contract. But a relatively small amount of cash such as the saving on Fulham's parachute payment would go a long way to helping the EFL clubs. I'm still of the view that they will provide some financial assistance at some point but will extract some important concessions from the EFL in return. I wouldn't bet against the introduction of a small number of Under 23 teams into the pyramid as happens in Spain and now in the EFL Trophy. The EFL might well have to accept something like that for their long term benefit.

To be fair it's money created by the Premier league and nothing else and as such it's theirs to do with how they see fit. But now we effectively have two organisations within the 92 club league structure, one which generates hundreds of million, the other that creates very little, the championship being one of the biggest money divisions in the world is wholly built on money coming down from the premiership via relegated clubs. The discrepancies between the divisions is like no othet league structure in football, we will never see the likes of Eibar and Freiburg getting to the premiership like they have done in Spain and Germany. We are nearer to a two tier competition as we have ever been with the salary cap introduced, if the championship goes down the same route we could literally end up with a closed shop syndrome.

And we're about to see that it doesn't even need fans in the ground to succeed. Its eating itself.

end of the 2nd last paragraph it says that the aim is still to reopen elite sports fixtures (premier league to conference north/south) to socially distanced crowds in a COVID safe venue subject to the test events.

Considering clubs below national league north/south already have fans and the mention of elite fixtures, I think its fair to say he's talking about prem-national league.

I didn’t mean the level of football, more the level of reopening. 10%, 20%, 30% or more. They could easily say all grounds can reopen with 10% knowing that no one will as it wouldn’t be financially worth it

I think the DCMS and SGSA had already stated it would be 25%-33% depending on the size of the stadium. Nothing seems to have changed in that guidance.

I think the cap of 1,000 refers to the ‘pilots’, which will occur before 1/10/2020. The wording is vague (poorly drafted but then he did go to Oxford;)). The rest of the letter makes no specific recommendation as to percentage of the ground which can be occupied. There is reference twice to ‘socially distanced’ crowds, whatever that exactly means.
