Expectations?

I don't understand it, most of these posters are well into their late 60s and beyond, you'd think they would be more impatient to see the club as high as possible before their final boarding is called.

 

Yeah but is Stuart really a good manager ?
He’s a good man manager and a natural leader but his tactics were shocking at times and the choice of players he brought in were questionable. Let’s face it he only got to the play off final with PP’s squad

 

I don't know what your stance on this was, but when PP left with the scout reports and we had 9 or so players on our books, people were moaning about how bad a state he left us in.

"With his squad" sounds like an interesting retrospective.

Also, I'd say the players PP brought in were generally pretty average. It was the squad he built and the mentality he instilled that won the day. Obviously you can't instil that mentality in the feeble-minded, but Parkinson would never have hired a shirker like Doyle or a quitter like Reeves.

 

Did we really have 9 players though? We had 9 players under contract but offers were being discussed with others. How many players were with us the start of that season that were here the previous one?

I believe that's the full list of players we were left with - don't get me wrong, we had a hideously bloated squad nonetheless, they just weren't Parky's players.

 

They were all under contract. Are you saying we renewed no contracts?

 

I'm saying that as far as I'm aware, those are the players that started the 16/17 season with us that were 'Parkinson' players from the 15/16 squad.

I believe that's the extent, but I'm not dictating it as fact - happy for someone to add to that list.

 

Even though some of our supporters wanted to castrate PP for leaving us with no staff and only 8 players on the books? Yet we got further than PP ever got with just those 8 players and what McCall brought in?

He only got to Wembley with Phil Parkinson's squad, I seem to remember the forum up in arms because Phil Parkinson had not signed the likes of Proctor up and let many players go, even criticising him because took his paper work with possible transfer targets.
He got us to Wembley by adding good profesionals to the squad left behind even getting Mark Marshall to change his mind and stay, getting an unbelievable season out of Mark him winning most awards for being the best player that season, something Phil could never get out of Marshall.

 

Maybe so. We did come up short but for an offside goal, we could have gone to ET and penalties. He still took us one step further than PP took us. And that was the point I made

 

For all I agree, I also think both Parky and McCall were guilty. In both situations, there were times City would break, only for the midfield to slow the game down, by retaining possession, but allowing for the oppo to 'reform' defensively.

 

Moving away from PP/McCall...

If Bury, who havent a pot to pee in and arguably in a worse state than us, can come back up at first time of asking then I see no reason why we cannot do the same.
