However, world governing body FIFA has already said it would not recognise such a competition and any players involved in it would be denied the chance to play at a World Cup.
I think this comment will have players having to make a very serious call

hope this link works-it mentions a 20 team league with 5 ahem lesser teams being rotated in and out, how they get that to work who knows.
Take the money i guess
*ps how on earth are the arsenal a top 6 club.
Should not Leicester and West Ham be involved.

The new Champions League format was just a cynical attempt to push us in this direction anyway, the big clubs make a threat to break away, UEFA agrees to make concessions to them which we all have to live with, then in another seven or eight years they make more demands and the process begins again. The end result was always going to be a European super league, except instead of doing it gradually by extracting concessions they have grown bold enough to attempt to implement their project immediately. You could make a case that it's better for a clean break to take place now than for us to be slowly pushed back, inch by inch, until we end up at the final stop anyway.
Looking at the proposals it appears that the leagues proposed members are going to slowly cannibalize each other anyway as TV and sponsorship income would not be distributed equally between the clubs. Eventually you will end up with super clubs within the super league, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham finishing in the bottom three every year, except without the jeopardy of relegation involved.bantamdave41 and Storck like this. -

This is straight from the NFL playbook. Levy particularly should never be able to watch a game at a stadium in this country again for being an Englishman and going along with this. It seems hyperbolic but I am sick to death of watching absolute vultures come and pick the game dry of everything that makes it good. It isn't the NBA, it isn't the NFL and with damn good reasonBronco and Faithful Bantam like this. -
The main thing is all this money these clubs will get, where will it all end up? It’s going to go to the owners like glazer etc to line their pockets and they want guaranteed cash cow by making it a closed shop.
they should be there on merit and not because they are a big club now. It’s an awful idea all for moneymeelin and bailiff bridge bantam like this. -
Wait until the fixtures for this season are completed, to full-fill the sky requirements, then deducts enough points to relegate all six teams, for gross miss conduct and bringing the game into disrepute. Also tell them they cannot compete in a euro super league in this country and get the government onboard , to bring it into law.
This is nothing to do with football and its history and passions. Just wealthy men , trying to line their pockets, at the expense of
fellow football, clubs. I am fuming.Bronco and PlatinumChaosX like this. -
Two things: more games between the biggest clubs can only reduce the magnitude of those events. More is not better at the elite level in any industry, from music to prize fighting to all sports.
Then, those supporting top clubs through this issue aren't supporting the team, they're supporting the owners.
Franchise style sports wouldn't care two jots about relocating Man Utd to Shanghai if the money is there and that's a fact. If that's your dream, continue to defend this BS. If you do care about 'Manchester United' or 'Liverpool', you gotta grow a backbone boys and girls.
Stop fantasising about profit and thinking along the lines of elitist owners because that's the end of your clubs legacy.MallorcaBantam and Bronco like this. -

So cynical that the ESL clubs have concocted and announced this at this time. In normal circumstances there would be massive demonstrations outside and inside grounds with high visibility on Sky, BT, MOTD and no doubt covered on prime time news. But with no fans in grounds the remaining PL games just carry on in near silence as before with the real fans nowhere to be seen until the planned start of the ESL in August.

Interesting slant from the Guardian news feed yesterday:
Rob Baxter emails with some thoughts on how all this might be stopped: “While there are limits on what the government will be able to do, one simple act (Brexit bonus?) would be to prohibit (or limit) working visas to overseas players associated with unrecognised leagues, meaning non-UK workers couldn’t train or play in the UK for any of the breakaway sides, and those overseas clubs wouldn’t be able to come in to play unless they were exclusively UK citizens. Though the Glazers might be happy with having to move United out of Manchester and off to Dubai, removing the need to spend money on renovating Old Trafford, Tottenham would probably be less keen on mothballing a billion pound white elephant. The logical endpoint is, of course, no home grounds for any of the clubs, and they jet off around the world playing exhibition matches in different countries, which is ‘the product’ certain owners want. That eats into training time, increases fatigue, and generally means that they’ll be playing fewer matches at a lower performance quality, often impaired by unusual conditions. You can’t expect players to perform at their best whilst constantly jetlagged or working what their body considers a night shift - the concept would be self-defeating from a competition, quality and player welfare perspective.”.Stafford Bantam and Rogered Tart like this. -

What is happening is the direct result of all the economic deregulation set in train by Thatcher and Reagan - allowing multinational capitalists to move money around at will, evade taxes and acquire companies like Manchester United plc using borrowed money, plunging previously rich clubs into horrendous debt.
These owners are multinational capitalists who don't give a flying feck about the clubs or their history or their fans. They don't care about football - it's just product to them - simply a means to make money. They are no different to companies like Serco, who will take on anything they think they can make money from and strip it to the bone to maximise profit, regardless of the impact on the 'consumers' . Wiping arses in care homes, running incompetent Covid test & trace services or playing football matches - it's all the same to these people - it's just widgets, and it matters not to them whether the product is any good or who suffers in the process as long as the bottom line is good.
This is Clown Johnson's 'greed is good' philosophy writ large. Their snouts are in exactly the same troughs as your Tory Party poster boys.Petrov and Tight1-0Victory like this. -
ESL '12' - We deserve a bigger share from the Champions League
UEFA - Why?
ESL '12' - Because we attract more sponsors, sell more pies, get more viewers, have wealthier owners etc etc
UEFA - What if we give you a smaller share 'cos there's more clubs in the Champions League now?
ESL '12' - We'll sulk, stamp our feet and go off to start our own super league. Then you'll be sorry!
UEFA - Really?
It's back to their domestic leagues now for the big boys ... with their tails between their legs. And the winner of this match is UEFA!Bronco and Idlebantam like this. -
