Well, if they make the announcement this evening, and the 6 English clubs are confirmed, I want to see them expelled from the Premier League (and any other competitions they are in) with immediate effect. No messing around. If they change their minds, then they can start at the bottom of the pyramid.
And as for the players, well it should be made clear to them that if their club joins the breakaway league, then such a move would effectively breach their contracts, leaving them with the option to walk away as a free agent should they elect to do so.

Do wonder if this is the top clubs trying to gain more rights via a threat of a breakaway. I can't actually fathom them doing it with all of the threats that FIFA, UEFA and the national FAs have levied out. hopefully the shear outcry from all football fans will convince the clubs to change their minds. dole out some point deductions too for good measure.
I will say though, moments like this are why I am proud to support a lower league club. We don't complain we failed to get into Europe or fail to land that transfer target from la Liga. Or even fail to win a trophy in a single season!
We don't have to pay for thousands of pounds for season tickets or hundreds of pounds for "stadium" shirts.
I know we are in the 4th division and are struggling to get out of it but its ours. It feels real.

The whole thing stinks. Those proud traditions that Man United and Liverpool in particular profess to - forget that. You've killed it. You no longer have the right to claim your 'working class, club of the people, you'll never walk alone bollocks'. Hang your heads in shame.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Man United and Liverpool are bang to rights here. Forget any allegiances that lower league fans have to their 'big boy club', these 2 clubs are THE bedrock of football in this country. They've sold their soul to American owners who give not one iota of a f*ck about the traditions and support of these clubs. They're chasing the money on offer in the US and Asia, and they'll chuck every supporter of those clubs from this country, and the game in this country, under a bus to get it.

FIFA/UEFA/the FA shouldn't even be trying to persuade these clubs to stay. They should be expelled today.
Let them go. We'll have a better, less predictable Premier League and, maybe just maybe, a more even structure across all the leagues.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...YungNath, meelin, Bantamsteve and 5 others like this. -

Honestly haven't experienced anything in football that has just wound me up to this degree before. Disgusted isn't even the word. Very telling how many owners in the PL also own NFL franchises. Also, Arsenal and Tottenham being involved in any way (and AC Milan for that matter), show this is not a super league of the best players/teams at all. So it's already a busted flush as a product, because why would anyone want to watch teams like Arsenal, Tottenham and AC Milan get spanked every week because that is absolutely what will happen. The clubs who end up at the bottom of this league will stay there and turn their clubs into perennial losers, as if Arsenal and Tottenham weren't already. So now those clubs have to market themselves as bottom of the league strugglers, and we'll see how attractive that is to the fanbase. Tbh I think the fans will either kill the idea or kill the clubs that go with it

This reads as a power play to me. Certainly the Big 6 English clubs (and Real, Barca and Juventus) are very unhappy with UEFA's plan for a new 36 club Champions League to replace the current structure starting in two years time. As always with the big clubs it's fundamentally about money. In particular It's how the current revenues from the Champions League would be result in a smaller share for the clubs with this reduced amount then redistributed to more clubs. What better threat to UEFA than the big clubs suggesting they will establish their own Super League if you, UEFA, go ahead with your plans to revamp the Champions League?
It comes as no surprise to me that's it's the foreign owned clubs, particularly US based owners, which are behind this since the proposal has features which are based on the NFL set-up. The FA and the PL (and some other national bodies) should have been looking further ahead before they gave the go-ahead to so many foreign owners within their national leagues.
The big question for the two proposals is who would win the TV broadcasting rights for these two different options. That might well determine whether a couple of German and French clubs are attracted to make-up the '20' and thatmight give more kudos to one proposal over the other.Aaron Baker, RCarol, YungNath and 3 others like this. -

Love this from the Premier League :
The Premier League said a European Super League would "destroy" the dream of fans that "their team may climb to the top and play against the best".
It added such a league would "undermine the appeal of the whole game" and that they would work with the FA, the English Football League, Professional Footballers' Association, League Managers Association and fans to "defend the integrity and future prospects of English football".
The FA said it will "not provide permission to any competition that would be damaging to English football" and will "take any legal and/or regulatory action necessary" to stop it.
They didn't think much about other teams when they formed The Premier League.
Gary Neville having a right go and rightly so, talking about the owners of Liverpool (you'll never walk alone sh!t) and Man United formed by worker many years ago, not forgetting the likes of Chelsea and Man City.Hugh Jarse, Stoneski, YungNath and 2 others like this. -

If the big teams are so against UEFA why continue to take part in the Champions League like they do? Treat it like the League Cup and stick the kids and reserves in, devalue the competition that way.
The ESL was a terrible idea thought up as a power grab to get what they want. They underestimated the reaction of the football world and as a result they now find themselves in a worse position and deeply embarrassed.WilsdenBantam, Bronco, Stafford Bantam and 2 others like this. -

The irony is, the PL has enabled and welcome these Billionaire owners coming into the game. And its come home to roost.
