I wondered who'd be the first to pipe up. So predictable.

I disagree. I recall reading it at the time and thinking what a good article it was once you get beyond Mr Rudd's usual acerbic writing style.

The post has been deleted thanks to Hoochy pointing out to us that there are potential copyright issues in posting articles verbatim even if he couldn't recall where he'd 'pinched' it from.

Sometimes he was spot on, sometimes he went too far. Towards the end he got a bit bitter. Understandable I suppose.

As an op-ed rant the article was amusing enough, but with its general binariness, breathtaking assumptions about those of us who are on the 'Leave' side, its at times patronising and sneering tone, and its general I'm-better-than-you-because-I-believe-X-whilst-you-believe-Y tone it was hardly calculated to endear itself and its author to those who didn't already share his views, was it? A 'Leaver' who wishes to be insulting could produce something similar aimed at the 'Remain' side, suggesting they are all wet-behind-the-ears Mummy's boys who are afraid of, and incapable of handling, independence and responsibility! But besides the dubious satisfaction of insulting the other side, where would that get us in the greater debate? (I'm sure there are Leavers who have been so insulting, before anyone else makes that point.)

Nostalgia for a bygone past that is perhaps more imaginary than real is by no means the only, or prime, reason for wishing to be out of the EU. Nor will we be suddenly cut off from European culture and heritage once out -- though I grant the author doesn't push that point of view too far.

I found it to be just one of the many pieces *both* sides have produced that preach to the converted, but don't do anything to attract the unconverted.

Labour caused their own downfall , they ignored their core Northern based voters . They focused on the London based metropolitan elite . Even now refusing to accept this . They will never gain power until they ditch the ultra - left wing Momentum group . They remind me of the old magic robot game , spinning round and round pointing the finger of blame at everyone instead of looking in the mirror. If they dont move back towards the centre ground they will cease to exsist in 2 years time . All politicians need to heed this election , it has exposed the vast majority for what they are , a bunch of self seeking , money grabbing , me me me people .

According to the Herald newspaper in Scotland many traditional Labour voters "lent" their vote to the SNP to stop Boris, knowing their preferred local candidate had no chance.
Of course Nippy won't accept that-she demands Indyref 2 in 2020 because the Scottish election in 2021 with proportional representation may not give them a majority.

They had their vote on independence referendum in 2014 and opted to stay part of the union and it was described as a once in a life time vote similar to Brexit. Are they going to ask for a referendum every 5 years?

I heard on tv that Corbyn stated at the weekend that he may have lost the election, but he won the argument. What argument was that then, the deluded old fool

I can't believe that he's still in bloody neutral, not able to stand down when the party is crying out to put an interim leader in until they get through their lengthy process to appoint their next Corbyn clone...

Although there were things in Labour manifesto I personally liked as a life long Labour voter you have to ask if as he quotes he won the argument, then it was his personal stance on Brexit and trying to get IMO a watered down version to stay aligned with the EU or his past, one opinion he could change but his past history he can't.

In 1985, Neil Kinnock took a stand against the party inside the party known as Militant.

Today that party inside the party is Momentum and they need kicking out like Alan Johnson was speaking up for.

If they stick a Long-Bailey, Burgon, Thornberry, etc as leader they are just getting Corbyn Mk2 and Momentum will continue to run the show.

Corbyn should have resigned straight away and an interim leader should have been appointed, the fact he stays on says to me they are trying to position one of the above into the job to continue with this failed experiment.

Everyone can see this, except the inner circle who are now deluding themselves thinking they had popular polices and that they won the argument. You see people like Burgon on TV and you know they haven't learnt anything from Thursday.

If Boris moves to the left on the NHS and to the right on crime and security he could end up holding that red wall for years to come.

Looking at the Labour Analysis after the results, seems many are in denial.

This sums up those from the Labour left sent out to speak to the media.
