I was also thinking of that game. Swansea hadn't scored a single goal on their travels until rocking up at Valley Parade

I agree,we have to go up this season or there will be huge ramifications,I don’t think Hughes will be here,we’ll certainly lose Harry Lewis and another rebuild will be required with probably a reduced budget. The club put a lot into Hughes budget this season but can’t see that continuing for another 4th division season.

I agree with you that another failure to achieve promotion will have enormous consequences for our club. Most fans only watch the home performances and they leave a lot to be desired! More of the same won't keep bums on seats. And after last season's failure as Sparks described it, I'm not sure another similar failure will be accepted by many fans.

Unfortunately, I remain of the view that we aren't quite good enough to clinch one of the auto spots. With a fair wind, we are likely to finish in a play-off position but then we are simply part of the lottery with a 25% chance of taking the 4th spot. And whilst the transfer window may provide an opportunity to strengthen the squad (and I hope we can take advantage of that), it also provides some risk. Three of our better players - Crichlow, Banks and Wright - could be recalled by their parent club and loaned out elsewhere. Any one of them would be a loss imo. What happens in January will determine the rest of our season.

    Could, would, should!

If we have serious intentions of being regarded as promotion hopefuls, we should be expecting to win these games whether home or away. If we don't and others around us win theirs, we will slide down the pecking order. However, I don't expect that even getting 8 or 9 points in the next four games will change things dramatically. We're unlikely to break into the auto spots but it might cement our place in the nearly-made-it play off positions. Imo, that won't prove to be good enough come the end of the season. The transfer window has to be a time to reinforce the squad and hang onto the loanees, well three of them, irrespective of what happens in the next four games.

That would be the penalty the club would suffer. I do hope that we do go up but there are no guarantees and I also think it will require more money being ploughed in. We don’t have the quality we thought. So the Board are no doubt just as aware as the rest of us. We have tried more managers you can poke a stick at, so sacking MH I think will not achieve promotion.
As I said the Board May have come to an agreement. We have had significant injuries which although you expect; maybe but not all in the same area. I believe you are right in that we will lose fans if we do not get promotion this season. It will cost the club more giving up on promotion and making cut backs. They have to keep on investing or they will lose the club my view if we drop into oblivion/ conference. It is catch 22.

On the games we have played so far this season my prediction is this, Orient and Northampton top two and the last auto and playoffs are up for grabs. We have to be more consistent if we are to have any ambition of going up this season.
We need to beef up the midfield to allow us to control games, that will help the rest of the team to build up their confidence.

I agree, but I have to say if we somehow started next season with a nobody manager having buggered it all up again, even I would be losing the desire to renew...

that goes for a hell of a lot of people ....... it really is hard work having to go there now ....... wouldn’t mind if it was entertaining but it’s dull and we ain’t getting the results out of it ........... seriously sat in a warm pub is more appealing than being sat down in the cold while we mess around at the back with it

I'm not finding this season boring, TBH, and it's nice going to VP knowing we're probably not going to lose.

But if Mark friggin' Hughes can't get this team promoted, I'll reach the point of despair.

    Too true.

We need a run of home wins to improve morale, no question about it.

And a win at Carlisle wouldn't go amiss.

Having a big budget hasn't worked for us so far so how much more do we have to put in to get promoted? We can't keep throwing money at it and hoping it eventually works. Smart investment is better than more investment. If the only way we can get promoted is by spendings lots more than everyone else then we are doing something seriously wrong and would have no chance in league 1.

Difficult to really judge a likely points tally given home form and recent performances.

For me, the biggest issue is less about the league position of our opponents and more about ourselves. Our flaws arent many but they are material and they have been obvious since the first game of the season. I see no change in our approach to address those flaws. And I think that will be our undoing. Similarly, does Hughes know where and how to make the squad changes in January to make his style work consistently if he refuses to adapt his game plan? Time will tell. For now though, I'm disappointed in what he's bringing to the table.

I’ve been against this formation from the start. To be fair to Hughes, it has yielded excellent away results, but it just isn’t good enough at home.

I find us dull, boring and predictable. If we find a way to win those matches I wouldn’t be so fussed. Adored Parky and he was cut from the same cloth. But our home form is wretched.

are we incapable of using a different set up at home compared to away? It doesnt say much for the coaching staff that they haven’t found a way to break these teams down when the same flaws have been evident since the Doncaster game.

was willing to give us the benefit of the doubt that day as the Osadebe leg break effected the game. But we’re still so slow at getting it forward, freeze cook out of games, contribute little goals from elsewhere in the side. Do we even work on set pieces? How many have we bagged from corners this year, for example?

Hughes seems a top bloke. I really hope he succeeds, but I’ve got my doubts. Every home game is awful.
