they weren’t in the playoffs then. The were expecting to finish top 10 at best. The player could have come to us with a view to going up next year and massively increased his wage or he could have stayed at a club where he was settled and then moved up the leagues in the summer on a free, staying on a moderate wage this year but bagging himself a better wage next year due to no transfer fee involved in any summer move. City made a cash bid in Jan, which is why I posted on here we could be in for an interesting Jan. Most shot me down but we did pay fees and it was a productive window wasn’t it.

I dont need to give my head a shake when I know those involved!

As it has happened cambridge have surprised everyone and kicked on. Mulls has sustained his scoring form and will looking at a good move this summer now on much more money Cambs are paying him now. Delighted for him. He’ll win the golden boot and probably league. A grafter who fully deserves it. A nice deal awaits him this summer, possibly in the Championship if those sniffing in Jan are still interested, but defo L1 at worst.

Well Danny Rowe goes down in history because apart from Wetherby Whaler none of us saw him in the flesh wearing a City shirt.
We fans we are assessing his Football League performances based on online views. When you are at the ground you can see what a player does both on and off the ball.
T&S obviously decided he currently wasn't contributing enough to the team and as Ryan Sparks has said we only want players who want to be at Bradford City.

When Rowe signed we were only three points clear of safety. It feels like a long time ago now that we are sat here ruing the fact that we have missed out on the play offs, but the perspective in January was that this was a guy that could lead us to safety. There is no doubting his contribution in achieving, and exceeding, that objective. I remember we'd signed Rowe and Grimsby signed Lenell John-Lewis from Hereford not long after and thought we've got an edge on them here.

The objective has changed in the months Rowe has been here. There's no doubting that the club will be targeting promotion with their summer recruitment and if Rowe is already unhappy about fighting for his place with Cook and the returning Novak, then everyone has done the right thing in moving on. We've got a fee that hopefully covers what we spent on him and Rowe has a three year deal at a decent club. Its one of many areas where we can deliver improvement with the summer recruitment.

Because as a club we thought it would work. It was clear early on to people who know that he couldn't do what Trueman wanted him to do. In modern day football you have to offer a bit more than just a powerful shot now and then. Where I agree with you is that he shouldn't have been signed in the first place if Trueman was sticking to 4-2-3-1 and its the first big mistake of the Turnbill TS tenure.

I get that, but he wouldn't have been if T&S could have found a formation that had 2 strikers in the starting 11, we had that great run up the table with the one striker option but when push came to shove or (we were found as some posted) T&S couldn't offer an alternative formation, Paul Hurst got pelters for saying when he changed Grimsbys formation we could not counter and like it or not he was correct 10 men for 45+ minutes and we hung on at times late into the game.

Sparks said the budget is coming down form 2.3 million so we aren't paying big wages anymore. There's no doubt we probably did enquire for him but it wasn't a realistic signing in the position we were in.

It was. Cambridge allowed us to talk to the players reps. We would have bettered his wage but he didnt want to move here when he has a young un and is settled. We were told to come back in the summer but as things have transpired theyve gone up so there is now no deal ever gonna happen. It was a realistic deal in Jan though and not a pie in the sky kieffer Moore one! They weren’t expecting to climb into playoffs and we would have upped his wage here in the short term. He, sensibly, looked longer term though.

That's how it ended but it certainly wasn't the way it started and it wasn't the way the club made a big deal of his signing in the media. The signing didn't work, not every signing does. To make it out it did for only three months, in which time he only played the equivalent of 9 games in minutes on the pitch, is just completely and utterly wrong.

Novak is a much, much better player than Rowe. His CV confirms as much. I hope he stays next year, Novak.

Novak plays the lone striker role well and was instrumental in the what was our best form under Trueman. After his injury we never really looked the same.

If it was unrealistic Cambridge would have flat out rejected the offer. He was out of contract so we put in an offer and cleared the first hurdle.

I don’t think it was unrealistic to target the player. In his spells at Morecambe, Swindon and Tranmere he had shown his quality but things hadn’t always worked out. Tranmere loaned Vaughan and he was forced out to Cambs. Bonner put an arm round him, made him feel wanted and he’s enjoyed a superb season. But the player knows he can do better than Cambridge and remember when we were interested they were floating outside the playoffs. People saying its unrealistic are doing so with hindsight. He could have taken more money here but he weighed it up and stayed put where he’s doing well and looked to decide future in summer. City offered six figure transfer fee in Jan and IIRC salary cap was in place then? Agents know whats happening behind scenes. He now gets a much bigger offer with no transfer fee or salary cap restrictions in place when clubs come back in summer.

I'm just winding you up mate. I remember you being vocal about him in January so your source is probably correct.

Not for me. Two long term injuries this season and we can't be carrying injury prone players next. I also think Cook is the better player so if we manage to keep him, I'd be looking at strikers who offer something different.

    Agree we need more pace.

Cook or Novak can lead the line though. It works if we have an all action 10 like Cooke. I don’t think we can expect Don to be a backup 10 option though next season.
