Danny Rowe - The New Charlie Wyke - now with poll

Currently writing a book about non-league football for Pitch Publications and recently talked to a player who was up against Rowe a number of times, when Danny played for Fylde. He reckoned the toughest marking job he ever had to do on every single occasion. Hated playing him. It was interesting too, that he reckoned a major reason for Rowe not getting into League football earlier, was because he must have been paid so well at Fylde. Reckoned that signing for Oldham and us, is now as much a pride thing, wanting to show he can turn it on at League level too.

If he'd really wanted it, he'd have been in League football much earlier. He's 32 and he's too good for League 2. I think he's a player who should have a couple of hundred Championship games under his belt. The good thing is that despite being 32, he's not about pace, so he shouldn't regress in the way that a McLean did. I think he's got at least 2 very good seasons in him at this level.

 

Danny Rowe isn't the new anyone. He's Danny Rowe.

 

Feet. Ground.

He's got some potential. Comparisons to players like Windass (who played at the highest level) are wild and wow.

 

Sometimes I think some forget they are just humans as well, he was probably well paid and had a happy life and an easy commute(let’s not go there!). It’s probably as simple as that though, plus I imagine he probably worked less hours at the training ground so had more personal time.

 

We all have our different needs and wants from life, so who knows why he didn't look for League football before now. I'm just bloody pleased that his new ambitions are with us.

 

Agree totally,up until the transfer window I struggled to form a supporter player bond there were so many lacklustre players in the squad.
Most have now been shipped out and already fans are starting to warm to the quality shown be our new players.
Rowe is a classic example of this,we were so detached from the previous players and their lack of effort in claret and Amber the new lads didn't have to do much.
Their commitment and passion is apparent in abundance alongside strong teamwork ethics which warm our hearts.
They have given us something to finally applauded after the previous shower.
Long may it continue.

 

Indeed, time will tell. But this is a guy who comes to us with something he wants to prove for himself - and then us!

 

Agree. Think this is the highest level he has been successful at. Certainly feel he could do it at league 1. He has good close control with both feet and can pick out a pass as well as being available for one. Doubt he will make it to the prem and don't forget Deano's aerial presence even though he is quite a bit shorter than Danny.

 

Let's leave out the Deano comparisons. Windass was a mobster, a total one off for us, Hull City, Aberdeen et al. Gangsta football.

 

Is the old Charlie Wyke the new Danny Rowe?

 

I remember watching that 4-5 against West Ham when Deano scored a plenty, but in between, looked to see where the match officials were, and then kicked, pinched, slapped and roughed up any West Ham player who was passing him after the breakdown of a move. Bet players stood in the tunnel before a game and then looked over at Deano thought to themselves, oh shit! That for 90 minutes.

 

No comparison. Rowe has much more to his game.

 

Two very different characters and players. Good to see Charlie is now proving his worth after two years at Sunderland.

Yes, absolutely agree with that BearBantam. I liked him a lot at VP and thought he got some unfair stick towards the end.

 

Have to say based on what I've seen of him so far I'm a little surprised he hasn't been in league football alot longer loms a very decent league 1 striker to me.

 

Wyke and Rowe are totally different Rowe can shoot and link up play wyke is a penalty box player who does nothing outside the box
