His lack of mobility was a killer, especially when as a team we are quite immobile. At Oldham you had players with attacking prowess and mobility around him, such Bahamboula, McAlmont, McAleney, Keiller Dunn. The only real attack threat that moves that we have is Callum Cooke. As i've said before there's a reason he hasn't played at football league level till the age of 30 + and it didn't last long. Not all transfers work and this one didn't, just amazed how many by the time he left that thought it would.

It's a brave call from them but I can see why. He isn't a hard worker, capable of a bit of magic but offers sod all the other 99% of the game. As you say, they are set on a 4231 with a hard working striker and it sounds like a summer rebuild is coming (is needed). They've publicly said they want Cook next season, probably offer Novak something but even if he leaves, will look to bring in 1 or 2 new faces up top.

Danny Rowe will have known he wont be a starter next season, probably at best 3rd choice forward and wants to start games. It's a no brainer with only 4 games left and him knowing he wont get many minutes in those 4 and we have a team wanting to part with cash for him.

I agree they will be feeling the pinch now, they'll get the summer for sure and have a chance to build. If things aren't going great by October or maybe a few too many signings not working out to go along with results, they'll be gone.

Well that explains why he's not playing. He is immobile but you can see he's got goals in him in the right team. To be fair though they've made the correct decision to let him go one unhappy player can have a significant impact on the whole team whether they mean to or not. I would imagine that Vernham is becoming unhappy too. Hopefully we can get back to how we were playing. I don't mind Cook but it's too easy to kick it long at him and if he is the sum of our ambition up front then we'll be in league 2 for a while.

I thought the one of ideas about having Turnbull here was that there wasn’t a constant chop and change of the squad if the manager left.

I think T&S simply got done, like Oldham did, and like we as fans did. Came here all guns blazing with a certain swagger about him. Got some goals. Showed us how hard his shot was, showed us he's got quick feet, scored a last min equaliser vs Bolton and all was good in the world.
Then we have to change tactics because of injuries, and he just doesn't fit in anymore. Some people questioning his attitude and commitment to the team, and when he does start games, he gets taken off because he's not doing anything useful and doesn't really seem to know how to play to formation.

Personally, I do think he was a bit of a diva. There was talk that his demeanor on the pitch was just his style, but now all this has come to light, I personally do think he was in a bit of a huff that the whole team wasn't focused on him like he was used to. Or, who knows, maybe football focused around him was promised to him by Turnbull/Sparks/T&S.

Either way he's gone now, and it's a bit embarrassing how it all turned out, but I am glad we continue to act fast and nipped it in the bud quickly. I don't believe that Novak is in contention for tomorrow, I think that's just smokescreen to lessen the blow about Rowe. Possibly we'll see the lad from Boro on the bench as really there's nothing to play for barring a miracle spur of losses from the teams above us.

I think if the club hadn't acted like we'd signed Messi which led to confirmation of club legend status in the eyes of some fans when he hit a hard shot in the warm-up before his first game there would be fewer histrionics about him moving on now.

His record indicates he is a thirty-something middling league 2 forward with a great goalscoring record in non-league, he came in and did a short term job and now he's moved on (downwards), it's happened many times in football before and will do again. There's really not anything to justify getting too upset about, it's quite telling that, with only a couple of weeks of the season left, he hasn't even managed to back himself to wait and get a league club once the transfer window opened.

I think the club were just trying to go all "Hollywood" to show that they were backing T&S, could splash the cash if they wanted to, and sign "the most wanted striker in lower league football". To be honest, I'd never heard of him before, and whilst I was also hopeful and a little bit excited after his first few appearances, I was quite vocal on here about him looking lazy, disinterested and could be a bit of a luxury player (got shouted down of course). Good luck to him. Seems he's found the level he wants to play at.

We know to our detriment in the past especially with strikers that can be the case, no guarentees in football but you'd hope at 30 and playing in front of 10,000+ every home game he'd want to be scoring goals and taking the accolades from the fans.

    I think Sparks got done with T & S!

Problem with Sparks he isn’t great with the contract side of the game is he?

I thought he was a decent finisher and was one of few players who actually had a bit of composure and awareness of what was around him when we were attacking. Never in a million years was a he a lone striker though.

The last coach we had who could play effective, attacking football was probably Paul Jewell. We certainly haven't had one for the last few years and I'd argue that we have had some players who could've been part of a more attacking setup. We just haven't been set up that way.

Turnbull wanted to make a name for himself. Sparks wanted to make a name for himself. T&S wanted to make names for themselves. Rowe looked the easy answer to continue the feel good factor which was happening at the time. Ironically, it's because Rowe wanted to make a name for himself, that this house of cards collapsed. In hindsight, it would have been much more beneficial to get a couple of midfielders in, rather than throw all the eggs at forward players.

Or once safe build a team around a goal scorer like Rowe?

The signing from Rowe wasn’t a bad thing. The way we managed him was though.

You do not build a team around a guy who spent nearly all his career non league..He simply wasn't good enough.

Wouldn't mind 3 or 4 of those Oldham players you mention, especially McAleny and McAlmont

Knee jerk opportunity to sign a player who MIGHT make it. Pats on backs all round.
Also shows that T&S weren't strong enough to say no. I know we're not allowed to mention his name, but this is a very similar situation to when "he who must not be named" decided on bringing in players to the team, without the managers input, just to make a name for himself if they come good. They didn't. And neither did Rowe.

Novak was injured we signed two centre forwards as cover and both contributed to helping us escape from the relegation scrap we were in. Novak is back now and Rowe is of the wage books for the summer
