Just replying to Steve's post, he brought it up that Farage was leader of a non entity party and just disagreeing, which you also did.

It's all some have to hold onto especially her Majesties Opposition.
You can hear it now when we come out of this pandemic and the country as well as most of the world will find we have a massive borrowed debt and the promises in the Tory manifesto are difficult to deliver some will wallow in their "told you you couldn't trust the Tories".

I'd say the public voted for Farage more so than either Brexit or UKIP, the parties he was involved, such was his appeal. Like him or loathe him, nobody can deny he succeeded in setting out what he intended to do.

You are correct. It wont be his own Personal actions, at the end of March beginning of April.

However as the Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister and involved in devising the rules for the public to follow, his subsequent behaviour sent out a message that you don’t need to stick to the rules.

    He was a trailblazer.

So anyone, ‘hanging out at the river, going to the seaside & having your mates round to party’, could say, ‘why should I care’ as Cummings (and others) just ignored the Government rules.

The attitude of ‘Do what I say, don’t do what I do’, rankles the great British public. Those in position of authority and influence, should conduct themselves in an impeccable manner.

Put bluntly he has failed and should go.

Yeah but it's not a game, Cummings, granted a bit cheekily, did what he thought best for him and his family, where the rest of the rulebreakers just think they are cheating the system and being clever....

That arguement can only be used after this incident came to light, so what were the excuses for those on beaches, parks, and any other meeting places were these people obviously thought the advice given did not apply to them.

Dave what was his excuse for flaunting the rules he had been involved in devising?

Look I will criticise ‘those on beaches, parks, and any other meeting places’ who flaunt the rules!!

No ‘If’s or But’s’, however as the Prime Ministers Chief Advisor, then he should go or be sacked. Can you not see that?

First of all I do not think Cummings does things ‘cheekily’, from what I can see of him, he seems totally humourless!

No you are damn right it is not a game.

Leaders should lead. They should set the standards. They should be impeccable!

For the ‘avoidance of doubt’, rule breakers whether they are from poorly educated backgrounds or have a first class honours degree from Exeter College, should follow the rules. No ‘Ifs and buts’! Those who break the rules should be held to account.

Im not offering an excuse but my point still stands with regards what people were doing previously to Cumming blunder without doubt he was foolish doing what he did with regards he was very much part of the advice being given at the time, the Cummings situation could only be used as an excuse after the event.

Call his actions a ‘blunder’, but he has had time to respond in a positive manner.

Firstly on his return to London, he could have informed the Government that on reflection, he felt the rules could be altered, so that other families in a comparable position to him, could take the same course of action, without breaking the rules. Some families will have been single parents and with perhaps more than one child.

Secondly he could have said ‘mea culpa’ (as someone who has studied ancient history, he will be familiar with the term).

It is his brassed face attitude, which particularly galls me. Quite frankly he is in a position, where he influences/directs/forms Government Policy, which makes the rules which govern society.

Yet he is ‘above that’! I am a great believer in equality. His behaviour can be seen as an affront to all that is decent about this country, the value of ‘playing a straight bat’, being honourable.

Strikes me that some on here, are apologists, for this disgraceful disregard of the rules of the country.

He should do the honourable thing and go.

Cummings may have many faults but his opinion of our civil service is spot on, A virtually unsackable elite with their own union called the "First division assoc and a system where the best way of getting rid of a useless member in your dept is to promote him somewhere else a system the promotes the most useless to the key positions,

This thread isn’t about the Civil Service. It is about the primary advisor to the Prime Minister. His behaviour, start a thread about the Civil Service if you want to.

Cummings was instrumental In the advice and formation of the rules given to the nation and the Prime Ministers ‘right hand’. He, not Civil Servants is the one who has behaved in an unacceptable manner. He should resign (the honourable thing) or be sacked.

It is exceptionally worrying that he and his political masters have zero insight. How can we have confidence in such a man?

This is absolutely nothing to do with Cummings. He is the subject of this thread.

It is Cummings behaviour and conduct which is the issue.

Again if you want to start a thread about that issue, which for the avoidance of doubt, the elements which flouted the rules of this country, gets my condemnation, then you are free to do so.

So as I have said that breaking the rules is unacceptable, will you now agree that Cummings actions was unacceptable?

the only rule any police force seem to be convinced he has breached is for the Barnard Castle drive. This all seems excessive for some thing that carries a £60 fine

I can see what you put. The end of your post concludes, ‘he got the call on the General Election right with his "Get Brexit Done" catchphrase.’

This is not about the General Election!

This is not about ‘Get brexit done’!

This is about someone who has flouted the Government rules (Which he had a part in devising) in respect of Coronavirus, he is in absolute denial.

Given his actions, then you could say he is in favour of rules for the elite (Himself) and different ones for the general masses.

    It is plain wrong.
