We certainly did. Drew 1-1 at Walsall on the Saturday (7 May 1983) and then beat Sheffield United 2-0 at home the following day (Sunday 8 May 1983).

It's standard for matches to be postponed for international call ups late as the sqauds are only announced a few days before the international window. Crewe can't apply for the game to be postponed until they know a player has been called up and they have the confirmation to send to the EFL.

Yes. Beat Darlington away 3-1 last game of the season. We went up in 4th place (no playoffs in them days). Darlington ended the season 5th. Seem to recall if they had won we would have been level on points and Darlington would have gone up on goal difference.

If that's how we play under pressure, we can forget winning the play offs.

I'm not only embarrassed by the idiot 'fans', I'm embarrassed by that team.

5 or 6 players out there couldn't trap a bag of sand.

I'm legitimately fuming with those 'performances'.

I'm assuming Cook leaves if we're in League Two, and who could blame him?

That's a heck of a thing for any manager to replace.

We need to avoid Premier League loans, as I still feel we got stung when Tyreik left.

Fishing out a top goalscorer in this division won't be easy, but Hughes must know he needs to find goals all over the pitch, which we've so badly lacked all season.

Unfortunately Walker just hasn't fit in to this system at all, and I'm disappointed with Smallwood overall. I know he got the big talk up when he signed from Hull, and that's not necessarily his fault, but he looks like a very average player to me.

I cant bear thinking about that sort of outcome but I wouldn't back against it, if we go an early goal down and the news filters through Mansfield are 1 - 0 up it could get nasty on the terraces, I hope I'm wrong but nothing surprises me anymore with regards Bradford City.

I'd say the problem is that we are *both* good enough and not good enough. In other words, consistently inconsistent, even within matches let alone match to match. Plenty of blame to be shared out for that, between players and management. But then, look at our squad and subs bench -- as I mentioned a few matches ago, who do we have there to settle things down, or lead the charge? The calming veteran, the game-changer from pace or skill or both, the player(s) who've won promotions and know what it takes? That comes down to recruitment.

We are what we have promised to be all season, a playoff-level side, but not an auto-promotion side. Today should have seen us cement that playoff spot, and we should still have done what it takes to see the game out, pyromorons or no. Now we have to earn it the hard way, or hope for huge favours from others. As for promotion through the playoffs, I just don't know. That inconsistency, that ability to bottle it at the worst times, worry me.

We're certainly much better than we have been for 5+ years, but equally we are very much a work in progress, as exasperating as that may be. If this is going to be 79/80, let's hope we skip 80/1 and go straight to 81/2. Keeping Cook would seem to be somewhat vital for that.

I called this today at work when asked.,. lose to Crewe ... wouldn't be surprised if we beat The Orient .... wouldn't suprise if we get get thumped by Orient .....this team hasn't the mentality to get/win the play offs.
You don't know which City will turn up

Well , that was so disappointing.
First half my god . A game where we needed at least a polnt to secure a playoff spot and our players looked like they were on the beach, except Eisa, words can not describe his performance , thank f he is out of contract, he can return to Scunthorpe in the national league north, even that might be above his level,
We then show some fight for about 15 mins in the second half a pull ourselves level, Crewe were rocking, instead of going on and winning the game, we back off and concede a stupid penalty in the 10th minute of stoppage time, added on because of our own idiot fans and their stupid flares.
Subs again too little too late, Cook was knackered and needed help.
Not looking forward to Monday, defence has gone from fairly solid to a sieve .
If we make the playoff's , i don't think we can do it. not enough bottle in the team to fight , when really needed.
To echo others M606 closed. just to add to the pain.

Sorry but I dont agree we were negative at 2-2. Totally the opposite. We were gung ho and way too open. This team struggles against pace and we looked vulnerable everytime they attacked.
Totally agree with everything thats been said re the brain dead idiots in the crowd.

I am not advocating violence, but these idiots need naming and their faces plastered on the front page of the T and A,
They are doing the club untold harm with the flares. Already under investigation from various incidents, including the pub at Rochdale and last night it cost us a point, game would have been over, with about 5 mins extra, not the 11 added.
Do these idiots actually care about the clubs history, as someone who was actually there that fatefull day, they make me sick and if we have to loose a handful of so called supporters, then so be it.

Reality is take Cook and Lewis out of the team. We are a mediocre bottom half Div 2 team. Recruitment has been poor and our loans have been terrible with exception of Wright.

PS Get Agyei signed for next season. Need a dynamic player with pace and power. Left Stubbs for dead.

Hughes can't win here. We have folk on here going on about how we had the momentum after the second goal but then in the same breath complaining that we didn't hold on for a draw. Hughes was right to go for the win, the fact we didn't was down to professionals who were incapable of following instruction. We'll get the point required for the playoffs then it's anyones game.
