That's in an ideal world, in the real world it doesn't work like that. You only have to see how people have reacted during the pandemic to realise an ideal world just isn't achievable.

Not with the delta variant - hence why it's 100% of cases now in the UK. Far more infectious.

From the minute we walked through the doors in the Sunwin Stand all the commissionaires wore face masks from the girl swiping our season ticket to the guy at the back of the 1903 suite directing fans into their seating area,

Total BS. Mask is not to protect the wearer as being discussed

An ffp3 or N95 mask protects the users. I have been saying this for months for all those who say everyone should wear masks forever. If you are uncomfortable wear one of those, and don't worry about what everyone else does.

Seems many want an excuse to blame others when they could quite easily protect themselves. In addition my old B&M mask was a waste of time and I only wore it for compliance. Anyone who had faith in that protecting them may aswell wear cotton wool seatbelts.

I was calling out the BS of asymptomatic non-transmissability and masks as being discussed a personal protection. Reading comprehension a struggle is it?

Having thought about this a bit more since yesterday I think I might have been naive in hoping people would behave differently at a football match. The reality is that it will be exactly the same as before the pandemic. Now that I know that I can make my own decision whether to go or not, as can everyone else. The impression given by the club though was that everything would be done to keep people as safe as possible and I don't believe that was the case, the lack of hot water for handwashing being an obvious example. So I'm going to stay away for a few weeks and see how things pan out. More broadly, I'm sure the government's hidden intention is to reach as near as possible to herd immunity, even though that will mean many more people dying. Roughly 30 000 cases and 100 deaths a day seems to be the current cost. There are a number of differing viewpoints in this thread and I respect them all. Ultimately each of us will make an informed decision. I'm just a little more informed now than I was yesterday morning.

Asymptomatic transmission has been pretty much dispelled.

There’s a joke over here, saying Estonians are glad the social distancing measures have been removed. They can now keep a 4 metre distance instead of a 2 metre one.

(Estonians aren’t the most sociable people in Europe).

Are you a bit dim. A ffp3 or N95 mask does protect the wearer, when you are claiming masks don't protect the wearer.

The simple fact is that the transmission of the virus is a consequence of the transmitter having already been infected with the virus. At that point, the virus cannot distinguish between those transmitters who are symptomatic and those who are asymptomatic. Both groups are carriers of the virus from having been infected and therefore equally capable of transmitting the virus to others.

I'd like to see any serious research which suggests otherwise.

Its ok saying “make a choice if you want to go or not” but the short sighted EFL have ruled no Ifollow is allowed on Saturday so fans can’t legally watch the match unless they live outside of the UK. Its a tough choice to make, and missing the homecoming on sat was bloody frustrating. Radio is not the same!

FWIW I was gutted to miss the game as I picked up Covid onholiday the week before last and have had to isolate. I’ve always followed official guidance during the pandemic and carried on wearing my mask even after they were no longer necessary…….. until I was on holiday, then I foolishly relaxed when I saw no one else on the coast was wearing them. BOOM. You let your guard down and its gets you. I had been double jabbed but still caught (what im guessing was) the new variant.

Cue the sleepless nights, fever and ball ache of looking after kids while having to work from home again.

My advice to anyone would be to ignore govts advice - as many employers are doing - and still wear a mask, then you know in your mind you’ve done all you can. You may still catch it but you might reduce your chances.

I will bring my kids to VP but will ask them to wear masks if there are people sat close. Ive not seen our new seats obviously, having missed yesterday, so no idea how rammed our section is. But will make me feel uneasy given how much transmission took place on our holiday. We either caught it in a crowded circus tent or somewhere like the crowded, sweaty amusement arcades. Nothing gets sanitized anymore does it. Or it could have been in a restaurant - no distance in queues and no tables are disinfected as before are they- just given a quick wipe.

I know the world must get back to normal at some point and I agree with easing the restrictions, but mask wearing should not have stopped by the negligent govt.

If I had an important event like a family holiday or wedding within the next two weeks you wouldn’t get me touching VP with a bargepole! Keep away lads and lasses. Not worth missing out on important stuff like that for a poxy game of football.

i certainly wouldn’t be going in concourse at HT. Will get my pie on 30 mins and eat in our seats.

You're double jabbed, have antibodies from being infected, how much more protection are you expecting?

I can't help thinking that a few pieces of cloth are going to be a relatively slight protection in the grand scheme of your situation.

And you're quite right....if I had anything important going on I wouldn't be going anywhere at all with big crowds for the moment.

Aye. They are only slight protection, but i need to mask up to give a good impression to the kids, who, bizarrely, tested negative last week. So id like them to mask up if they come.

As well as avoiding concourse I Would also leave before end. Can’t think of anything worse than getting trapped in that bottleneck near the steps near NW corner at FT with a load of grubby fans breathing all over each other
