Covid & Face Masks at VP

As I said, I’ll follow the science Frank. You believe what you want, I’ll believe what I want. But your assertion that masks don’t work is arrant nonsense. Let me make it clear, I don’t believe they are 100% effective, might even be single figures but it improves the odds.

 

There are numerous studies demonstrating that mask wearing reduces transmissibility to others and reduces the likelihood of catching Covid. Are they all wrong?

 

I find it quite interesting that when you dig down into it you're not actually wearing a mask for your own safety or for the safety of those around you but to actually give off psychological messages to others.

As mentioned a number of times elsewhere - since masks provide protection for others, rather than the wearer, having your kids wear them in a largely unmasked crowd will broadly give very little protection to them anyway. However it is completely your choice and whatever works for you and your family.

To me, the extent of precautions you'd be taking at City - in light of the fact you're very unlikely to either carry or catch the virus now - seem out of proportion to the risk. I guess that's why we all get the freedom to make our own choices though.

Well Ive had both vaccines and have the virus so mask wearing isn’t really going to help me as much as others but the kids don’t have the virus (bizarrely, as we live in same house), nor have they been vaccinated, so the mask wearing on my part is merely to set a good example and it is for their safety….if your kids don’t see their own parent wearing them its harder to make them wear one too. The 11 yo is reluctant to wear one when going out as it is.

Or another perspective is that out of 65m people with no restrictions in force this is is 0.08% of the entire UK population over a 2 day period.

Your right winter is going to be the test

 

No this guy was saying within a couple of weeks after the restrictions were lifted so we're into our fourth week although as you say winter will be the test.

 

Anyone can predict doom down the line. They are usually quiet when it doesn't come, but are vocal as hell if it does.

When schools go back and winter kicks in I'm sure there will be an increase, the big question will be now that everyone has been given their freedom back will they give it up as easily as they did last time if they see the risks to themselves as very low. I think it will be hard to impossible to impose restrictions going forward.

 

Surely the point now is what will those who catch the virus suffer? The number of hospital admissions is at a pretty low figure and would appear to mainly be of those who have not been vaccinated for whatever reason. There does not appear to be any figures published (as far as I am aware) of how long these people remain in hospital now compared to, say, 12 months ago.

Genuine question as I don't pay attention to the figures, has there been a big increase in cases?

 

Can’t believe we’re still talking about Covid, after July 19th I stopped worrying about it and will actively avoid any establishment that enforces mask wearing.

Proving I’m fully vaccinated is not a problem, persistently being asked to wear a mask for no good reason is.

 

Didn't go last night, was there any difference in mask-enforcement, or mask wearing by fans, or was it pretty much the same general laid back attitude as Saturday?
