It'll be the standing limit that they're wary of exceeding. If they exceed 4k standing then they have to check everyone even if there are fewer than 10k in total.

FGR are having to do covid passports in one of their stands because they'll exceed the indoor limit of 500 in their hospitality suites which means they have to check everyone even if they don't go in the hospitality areas.

If “doubling every two or three days” is correct then within a month 1.6 billion folk in the UK will have Omicron
As this is 22 times the total population of the UK then I would suggest the figure is somewhat dubious

It's possibly true that there isn't one in ICU at the moment, but that won't be for long. My daughter is a sister at BRI and they are run off their feet with it, and totally geared up for a total melt down. We are heading for lockdown again in the New Year. I predict Monday 3rd January for an announcement, so the Toryboys can get all of their parties out of the way first.

Cue hysteria from Burnham & Khan.

Come on, don't you think they have enough work to do assessing the tests without recovering DNA from it and recording it on the National Data Base ?

I was quite relaxed about the possibility of another lockdown until doing a bit or arithmetic last night and now I'm thoroughly depressed. Whatever number you want to start from (confirmes cases or estimated cases) it's properly scary daily infections by Christmas Day at which point you get loads of families meeting up and making it worse. I'm not sure we'll make it to the new year, I wouldn't be too surprised if we're playing behind closed doors on Boxing Day.

I'm not sure we'll be playing on Boxing Day. This is a logistical issue; if vast numbers of people are off work (regardless of how severe cases are) then we may not have the police, stewards, staff or players to put on a match.

I can't dispute that claim re BRI as I don't know and don't live locally. My local colleagues in ICU and critical care are not seeing the same thing, so I was very surprised to read that.

It's right though. If someone is on their death bed with a week to live yet has a positive test just before death it will classify as a 'Covid death'. Same if someone gets run over yet tests positive but dies of their injuries it will be a 'covid death'.

Besides, experts are saying symptoms of this new variant resemble that of a cold. Since when has a cold overwhelmed the NHS?

Yet more scaremongering garbage. People ought to carry on as normal, with sensible precaution.

6 EFL matches already off this weekend. I'm of the opinion that games will occur this weekend but will be curtailed thereof

    Edit. Make that 7 now

Yes. And that number will increase, you would suspect. With pressure growing on the PL, you would expect similar at EFL level and I genuinely can only see 1 outcome.

There has to be a way of recording it and testing everyone who dies to see if that had it at death is not a realistic option so they have gone with the best possible. There will be plenty who die OF it who haven't had a recorded test and plenty who die with it that were going to die anyway, cancer, heart attack, stroke.

The two might not balance each other out but in the absence of a better way the 28 day rule seems to be a fairly common sense approach, absolutely no doubt this has been decided on by the scientists rather than the politicians so no element of fudge/ conspiracy/ cover up etc.

Covid is a killer, we all know that and rather than argue over the whys and wherefores of the stats we should just get on with eradicating it. We developed world beating vaccines in weeks & months, I'm sure the boffins are throwing similar money at an actual cure or at least a drug that makes it non fatal.

We consigned Smallpox to a test tube, I'm sure given time the men with brains the size of the London Planetarium can do the same with this twatting disease.

Perhaps the use of ‘excess’ deaths i.e. the number over and above the norm, is a better indicator of the actual number of people who tragically are dying, when compared with pre Covid times. The graph below is purely for the Yorkshire and Humber region. So a huge jump from 83,608 expected deaths to 94,243. An excess of 10,635 deaths. That is roughly the population of Shelf. https://fingertips.phe.org.uk/static-reports/mortality-surveillance/excess-mortality-in-Yorkshire-and-The-Humber-latest.html

yes and no. if it CONTRIBUTED to their death i.e they were not able to recover due to already being ill, quite rightly that will be added on to the cert. if it did not effect their recovery in any shape or form it wouldn't be.

On reflection, this thread has veered away from posts focusing on Covid Passports and the implications for City matches, to a far broader discussion about Covid. I guess I am guilty of adding to the posts.
So a line in the thread. Unless related to City directly, posts after this one will be moved to
