The government have already asked the NHS to send as many people as possible out of hospital in preparation for what is coming. Boris won't take further measures for as long as possible as he's in the midst of an internal party power struggle and is more concerned about that than us.

Not all of us - some of us will be self-restricting and waiting for the herd immunity that could possibly follow this wave. The point of restrictions is that there is a real risk that our healthcare system is about to be absolutely fubarred for a period of 2-3 months. That alone is a perfect reason for proportionate action

I am not personally worried about my individual omicron risk. I am very worried about what we as a country may be about to face. You cannot vaccinate out of this at this stage - Boris is putting up a good act that we can.

If its 200k today and doubles every 2 days, come 13th Jan 6.4bn will be infected and the world need not worry anymore.

 

The good news is that we're not starting from 200k cases doubling every 2 days because the latest daily figures are 78k infections with about a third of those being omicron (the rest being delta) and it's the omicron numbers which are doubling every two days so we're starting from ~26k cases of omicron. The bad news is that we're less than 6 days away from 200k omicron cases per day at current rates and then everything you said will be true but worse because delta will be happening as well

 

And at that point the way they record deaths is going to be bloody ludicrous.

Probably 25% of people who die will do so within 28 days of a positive test and the lack of distinction between "with" and "of" is going to cause chaos.

 

In that case, we'd better get our January transfer targets sorted out early !

 

Sorry but that's the government's testing figures which have always run below true infection rates. More realistic estimates, particularly from the Zoe COVID symptom app data have always demonstrated much higher infection rates. The 200k cases is current. About 120k of them asymptomatic. The government infection data has always been out of whack with what is really going on. The fact that we've seen such a big jump in the official testing data in a day is concerning in itself. It's not the tip of an iceberg, more a 3 fifths submerged ice cube.

 

The more people send off PCR tests the bigger the national DNA database could potentially become. I know no data is supposedly kept…..but vaccine passports were never gonna be brought in either were they……

How many years until the govt are flogging on that info to insurers and marketing companies - knowing this mob they’ll be doing it through their own companies lining their own pockets?

You jest, but in theory this could be a more rapid way out of the pandemic than the current half-assessed attempt to vaccinate the world. The problem is the price we pay in the meantime and the significant potential for further mutations that such a high infection spike brings. Imagine if the estimated 8 fold increase in transmissibility from delta to omicron was matched by an increased mortality rate with a further mutation. Spanish Flu anyone?

 

Carlisle aren't standing up to anything, unless they all of a sudden double their attendance get a 10,000 crowd they don't need to do anything and aren't legally forced to check covid status. It's like Derek Adams turning round and saying he's not interested in the Man Utd job next season like that makes a difference. Lincoln's capacity is only just over 10,100 so for the extra 100 tickets it's not worth the extra cost.
Any club who does it that averages over 10,000 is only making the fans that want to go but miss out suffer

 

They won’t be flagging anything but national health card and having to pay more if you are overweight or unhealthy could be something that might happen.
