Orban and Le Pen aren’t “far right” never mind claiming they’re fascist.

Nah you mean well generally its just you go a completely different way about it to me. I think we all want the same things we just think there are different ways to get there. Plus, im a dirty liberal so it goes against all i stand for to physically hurt someone for having a view different to mine. On top of that you have a wit which I find amusing at times... once or twice

 

What would you know about the world? you cant even define what far right means. Plus youre a simp for Putin.

 

Im tired of people using the word 'leftist' like its an actual word and not some bastardisation of the english language by americans who are newly woke to politics.

 

Leftist is in the Oxford dictionary and its meaning is very clear

Its an americanism - we would say left wing not leftist - I would hazard a guess that its a recent addition

 

It's not ridiculous. Some of the extreme left tripe spouted on here would have you and a select few others on here under surveillance if not locked up in the majority of countries. That's a fact.

It's just the left-wing narrative has become so socially acceptable here it has been normalised as a legitimate perspective on life when in reality the world looks at us as a society in a very different light to what you would imagine.

 

It's so weird that we're about to get an announcement that taxes are probably going to go up. On top of rising mortgages and energy bills.

And apparently people are happy about this? Feel like I've dropped into a parallel universe.

 

I tend to stay out of these debates but reading things like this makes me chuckle because you could switch "left" for "right" and "tories" for "labour" and you've got exactly the same slurs that have been flung around since I can remember.

It really is like a school playground these days and we've so many willing participants it's difficult to even register an interest in separating the valid points from the petty bickering.

Of course Orban and Le Pen are far right. In the 50s, 60s and 70s these people would have been regarded as, total extremists, completely outside the scale of normal democratic politics. It's a measure of how far the Overton Window (look it up) has shifted to the right since the 80s that they are even considered as mainstream politicians.

Only someone with very right wing views could claim that Orban and Le Pen aren't far right.

 

I'm getting pretty bored of you keep moaning about taxes. Low taxes are not the be all and end all. Taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilised society. They are a social necessity. Of course they can be excessive, but they certainly aren't at present. I'd much rather live in a country with fair taxation funding decent public services than a low tax area, like the southern states of the USA, where roads are crumbling and public services are virtually non existent. The last thing we need at present is tax cuts.

 

I completely agree by the way and I’m not particularly moaning. I just think there’s a limit to how much it should be and “fair” is absolutely the key point. We’ve got into a situation where the only solution acceptable is more tax and in a cost of living crisis I’m slightly baffled that taking more money out of people’s pockets is the solution.

I don’ t particularly want to live in a truly low tax area as you mention – I just want the accepted solution to occasionally be something other than “lets give the government more of our hard earned cash” especially at a time when people are being squeezed anyway,
