Connolly and Ismail are huge upgrades on scannell though, well done to bowyer on that one.

 

Best performance of the season. Connelly motm for me, though Pritchard was very good too. And Cooke made a huge difference. We had a proper midfield today

 

I wasn't at the game, on holiday at the moment but after Northampton I did have words with Paula Watson. Today I have sent her this page of the thread and the other thread "Fans on the pitch", I have copied Julian Rhodes and they both have my thoughts, up to them re the action but in my view if it happens again we need to be able to tell the F A what we have done rather than we we are going to do, this is important as patience will run out eventually and we will get clobbered.

 

Have to say Connor Woods defending is coming on tenfold this season. I was always uncomfortable with him starting, but left back looks far stronger this season.

Also wingers. We asked for wingers we’ve got 3 who look dangerous at this level. Scored 3 without our strikers who we thought we’d have to rely on is a good sign.

 

As we are talking about wingers a few of the older end will remember John Hall a good old fashioned winger from back in the 60s/70s who made 430 appearances for the club, very good cricketer also in his day, unfortunately lost a leg from a blood clot I believe, he still comes to most games I'm told so I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he gets back to cheering the lads on soon

 

For all the praise of the wingers (rightly so) I thought the best cross of the game came from Wood for the goal that was ruled out for handball. First time cross on the run and it was perfect. Shame Vaughan’s initial header didn’t go in as it was worked really well.

Overall I’m happy with Wood at LB he’s looking like a solid player with plenty of pace and stamina to get up and down the pitch.

 

Video shows a clear penalty. Donaldson is trying to get up enough to put the ball in with his foot but the defender keeps an arm over his back to push him down again. He's then just trying not to stop it so it can go over on its own but actually lands on the ball with his chest and it's still unclear whether he touchs the ball with his arm - but observe that the defender is pushing his right arm down as Clayton tries not to touch it. As I thought when I saw it live from the reverse angle, I think it's a goal. If not, it's a penalty. Linesman and referee were right initially. 4th official is wrong and it's a ridiculous overrule.

 

First visit to Valley Parade of 2019 for me.

Really enjoyed it. A very entertaining game.

Thought we looked lost for the first half hour. Playing it out from the back, but unable to really do anything in their half at all.

Cracking goal, our midfield getting stuck in and the sending off changed the game.

Poor tackle from BRE. Never getting that ball.

I was sceptical about our midfield early on, but we have some good technical players there. Great to see Connolly : a player who can beat a man. That will be a huge asset for us.

Donaldson did well for the third goal but I didn't think he offered enough holding up the ball.

Overall, we deserved the win and the score was about right. Their keeper made a couple of good saves, as did O' Donnell. Like to see the disallowed goal again, I think there may have been a bit of handball.

 

Best performamce of the season for sure. Its a long time since Ive seen us create so many chances in a game like that.

Connolly my MOTM, but notable good performances from Pritchard, Cooke, Palmer and Wood too.

Palmer looked so much better alongside Cooke. Once they have played together a few more times, Im sure they will prove to be a good partnership.

The only blot today was the stupid reckless challenge from BRE. Micky Kennedy would have been proud of that, but you could get away with it in his day.

A pat on the back for Bowyer, who got his substitutions spot on today.

Cracking atmosphere today too

 

Great to have a player that gets you off your seat. So much better than the stodgy football we've played for the last eighteen months. Some of our breaks today were lightning quick.

 

Some good individual performances today Pritchard was guven MOTM but for me Connolly had a good game, Wood had a good game, and Cooke did well possibly Palmers best game for us.

 

BRE deserves to be fined his wages for that tackle. The easiest decision that ref will ever have to make. And after another stupid decision he made in midweek which cost us a point against a top ream he deserves an almighty rocket from GB.
As to the disallowed goal, the ref gave it and so did the liner on the Midland Road. After a few seconds the ref began talking on his Mike and then disallowed it. So the question is who was he talking to? And what did that person say to make him change his mind and also overrule the linesmans decision?

 

Come on, it was a red. Turn the situation round and their defender goes in on our player like that, we'd be screaming for a red card all day long. Wasn't malicious, just very badly timed.

 

While I remember, why did NKP not walk for his halfway line challenge?

He's arguably last man, but either way it's a pro foul and a yellow - which would have been his second.

Just another poor decision from these dreadful officials.

 

That's my point though. Referees aren't the best at this level and BRE put himself in a vulnerable position that could have been easily avoided. We were cruising at that point and there was no need to make a tackle whatsoever, regardless of whether anyone thinks it was a refereeing mistake or not.

 

In Wood and Pritchard I think we've stumbled across a very strong partnership for this level. Both are full of work but both also possess the quality needed when delivering the ball in the final third.

 

Will you come back on at 5pm and discuss, if you are wrong. Of course you wont, only to gloat, I told you so, if we dont.

 

Strongest team we have imo, no excuses go out there and beat these.

 

Thought that was the best performance of the season. Bar a 10 minute spell midway through the first half when they dominated and scored I thought we looked comfortable.

Midfield was excellent, all 4 of them played well and used the ball well providing the front 2 with plenty of balls and supporting well on the edge of the box. Onwards and upwards if we can keep that level of performance up.
