Well I was very impressed with today. The first team was pretty much flawless to be honest, none of them had a bad game at all.

More than any ability, the best asset that Vaughan and Donaldson have brought to the club is a brain, they know exactly what to do and when. I'd put money on them getting a shit tonne between them too.

Defence looks much better too although O'Connor still needs replacing with Paudie imo.

Akpan had a much better game than last week and palmer is another one who has that intelligence in him.

Gibson did well too, won a fair few tackles and is starting to make better decisions on the ball too. I still think he's better centrally and we really need that LW in. Scannell was excellent.

The second team was ok. Hornby looked assured, French good again, Henley is very athletic, devine was decent too to my shock and wood and Riley were ok.

Nortey looked off the pace and made some really poor decisions on the ball. Solvet, playing out of position at CB looked impressive and was very strong in the tackle.

Style of play Bowyer is drilling into them is good too. Playing out from the back is option number one and everyone looks like they want the ball. But when we have to go long, it isn't aimless hoofs, its balls into space or into the body of the strikers where we either keep it or win a foul.

Really excited for the season now.

I'd just like to see two up front. I don't think it's too much to ask.

Rons posts should be read with a background music from the Hovis advert for maximum effect.

For what it's worth, the team that played for an hour did well. No real poor performances though I still think the positions we need to strengthen are those held by Akpan and Gibson.

BRE adds much needed presence and aggression at the back and AOC looked more comfortable next to him. Both full backs were fine and Mellor did well for our goal.

Palmer is tidy, uses the ball well and I think he'll be an asset. Scannell had their full back on toast - keep him fit and there wont be a better right winger in League 2. The front 2 were quality, they could be a real partnership. Gibson drifted in and out, though he had a 10 min spell before he went off where he looked good.

After the subs, I thought Henley did well. French looked very assured. Wood is never a left winger but put 2 quality crosses in. Doyle was poor really and the young lad up front worked hard but didn't look to add much. Devine did well. The black lad in midfield on trial was way out of his depth. Nortey did ok in patches but there isnt enough there to make it worty taking him on.

All in all I thought the signs were very encouraging. Good fitness, much more balance about us and we played some nice stuff at times.

We gave a soft goal away but overall I think Bowyer will be pleased.

Oh and the ref was sh*t.

Really enjoyable watch this afteroon. World away from the negativity of 12 weeks ago ?. The Don -Vaughny - Scannell surely will tear this league up . Must be 50 goals in tbose three players !? We had the best of the game for me against a lower Championship side. Thought Richards-Ev was commanding and the front three played it using the experience they have. We should benefit more than a few times with the ball into The Dons feet then its all "dancing on ice" incomes bungling defender and down he goes. Skipper Vaughny slotting the pen !. Found my eyes on the front three so the midfield was kinda of overlooked. Palmer was less prominent and Gibson slightly more isolated on the left in a 4-4-2. Feel Gibson is best further inside ?
But lots to be enthisiastic about; bit of a soft equaliser ? But not complaining at 1-1. The French lad at the back second half was quick into tackles and did ok. Also Nowty Nowty didnt look amiss in centre mid.

    Lots to feel optimistic about.

    Bantams progressivism is back !

As long as it’s a credible performance with some semblance of the game plan we’re working to, and we don’t get injuries, it’s all good. These are really just training sessions. It’s the first 3-5 games of the season proper that will indicate what we might be capable of.

I still think we have important business to do. We need at least 2 more quality players.

Tut tut. Never bought dripping in my life. Half a shoulder of pork cooked slowly and you have enough dripping for weeks. The best gravy is done with meat juices and fat. Depending on the meat it will be either thickened with a couple of tablespoons of flour or Yorkshire Pudding mix.

Wigan will be hard to beat, might even be a draw.

Well last year's pre season set the standard for the league matches which followed.
