The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's perfectly possible to sell Wyke, reinvest the money into the playing squad and get promoted. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

 

At the end of the Wembley play off season I was excited about Charlie. I thought there was a great chance of 20 goals plus. Despite all his issues, including injury, a contract bonus issue, no replacement for Mark Marshall, and McMahon’s delivery went missing so we struggled to supply him, I still expected more from him. He hardly won any of his personal battles with CB’s. I know it’s difficult when a team is n’t playing well but I still think he needed to find a way to make more of an impact. Despite all that, we looked a much weaker side without him. I think that was due to our poor recruitment. Give Charlie the ball in the box and he will score decent numbers in L1 but it’s not looking like we will have a team to provide him.

Can’t see him staying. He’d be crazy not to join a Championship club if a chance comes his way and we’d be crazy to let his contract run down escpecially ‘if’ he wants away.

I wonder why he is valued at £1 million with his inability to play lots of matches consecutively without injury.

 

You make it sound like we're guaranteed promotion if we keep Wyke though. That's the flaw in the argument at the moment.

The most likely scenario if we keep him is that we still end up in league one, without Wyke and without a windfall to replace him.

 

He's missed 3 matches in 18 months due to injury.

You feel we need the windfall, well that windfall is worthless if we sign someone worse than Wyke.

I'd rather just have the good player than the chance to try to sign one.

Regardless, if he cant be persuaded then cash in now. Keeping him and losing for nothing is ludicrous

The only certainty in this is that selling him is to lose our best forward. And YOU think that's a good idea...

 

Regardless of how good a player he is, if his heart isn't in it and he doesn't want to be here it's better for everyone if he goes.

 

We are a league one club with very little revenue stream. You can't risk losing a potentially big transfer fee. Its completely immaterial anyway, if a championship club comes in for him he will want to go, the differences in salary are too big to turn down.

But wanting him to go or saying its clever to cash in just to cash in is ludicrous.

If it's not forced, it's a shit idea.

And I don't believe we have no choice at this stage but the rumour mill has swept up the gullibles who probably backed every odds on favourite for City manager.

That's my opinion based on the theoretical choice between actually having a quality player as opposed to trying to buy one.

It takes years and years and huge fortune to sign a Wells or Wyke. Chances are, we fail to replace him adequately. On that basis, he must stay.

 

The Charlie that played in the first half of last season would have ended up with 20+ goals.
