Totally agree with this. Our season has been plagued by conceding late goals yet, when we’re ahead, we still seem to approach the latter stages of games the same way. Sit deep, give possession away cheaply with no attacking threat and defend on the 18 yard line. If we try this then we will lose.

First 15/20 minutes we showed that if you get Carlisle on the turn and running in behind them then they can be exposed. That’s what we need to do. Another reason why playing a more traditional LW like Nevers or Pereira might make more sense than Walker.

Middlesbrough have now played Coventry 4 times this season and scored 1 goal!

Coventry certainly knew how to set up to stop them.

We could very easily have the same stat if we stop Carlisle scoring - 1 goal in 4 against us! Wouldn't that be something?

You can't leave Walker out that's mad.
It is a big problem the left side but trying to fit someone on the left at the expense of Walker or Banks would leave us with nobody able to carry the ball forward and the whole team would get deeper and deeper.
During the season its shown that when we play with a quick tempo, press high and quick, we can be dangerous. When we are sitting deep and not pressing from the top we can look very nervous.

I'm not Walker's biggest fan, I reckon he's not a patch on what he was last season, but leaving him out would be pure madness.

For balance, we have also benefitted from late goals too (5 points gained) -

    Wimbledon (H)
    Colchester (H)
    Northampton (A)

    Conceded (6 points lost) -
    Colchester (A)
    Crewe (A)
    Mansfield (H)
    Swindon (H) Very debatable penalty

Not a lot in it from Scoring/Conceding point of view (That's off the top of my head).

I meant play Walker centrally behind Cook as usual in the 4231. So it would probably be Clayton who drops out.

    Barrow (A)
    Gillingham (H)
    Swindon (A)

At the very least - picked up 5 and lost 10

Coventry had a similar history at Middlesbrough, apparently... ;)

For me, this match is more about mentality than tactics.

What we don't want is the central midfielders dropping deep all the time and giving us no way to get up the field otherwise they'll just be attack after attack and we'll eventually concede.

We need to forget that this is a two legged match and just think it's a regular one off match where we set out to win but a draw away from home is also a decent result. If we think too much about this one goal lead then we'll drop off too early and be behind before we know it.

We’ve dropped 9 points from injury time goals Barrow away, Colchester away , Swindon home, Mansfield home, Gillingham Home, Crewe away, and gained 5 points with a draw at home to Wimbledon, late winners against Colchester Home and Northampton away.

The Swindon (H) was particularly painful. Never a penalty!
Impossible for the referee to give it at the angle he was at.

The referee later apologised, he got it wrong, and didn’t the ref away to Orient say he got TWO of our penalty shouts wrong? Wasn’t one Wright, and the other Cookie?

Not strictly city related, but if anything gives Carlisle confidence and belief, it comes in the shape of Wednesday's result tonight. This really underlines how we must score first.

next goal in our the is huge
