Ferguson absolutely bottled that last night. All Peterborough have done all season, is play on the front foot, try contain possession and break through the gaps. And a lot of the team are under 24, without a lot of big game experience. TO send them out, knowing an onslaught was coming and just to play in their own half on the counter was a terrible decision. The entire second half, when Peterborough needed to keep the ball when they had it and frustrate Sheff, they had 1 touch in the Sheff final third all half. They completely played against their nature and the young lads didn't have a clue what to do.

Not taking anything away from the miracle Sheff performed, but Peterborough playing the way they did made it 10 times easier for Sheff to bombard the box with long balls and set pieces. I think as we had a bit of success in the middle of the season playing a more counter style, sitting deeper in the diamond our players will be a bit more used to having their backs against it. But yes fully agree, we need to score first tomorrow afternoon, one goal and their heads will drop completely.

Peterborough got their tactics COMPLETELY and utterly wrong. Sitting back, conceding midfield from the off and have two pacey men wide for the breakaway, with a big “ goal scorer “ in the middle was food for the gods for a team playing catch up. They deserved everything they got……

We will have to weather a storm to start with. They will no doubt be fired up and come out all guns blazing but we have to stand firm and then hopefully we will get a chance when it settles down after about 15min.

I know Hughes won't do it but we need to have someone out of the box on corners and free kicks to stop the ball coming right back at us, it also takes a player of theirs out of the box. When they were defending corners and free kicks they had 2 people up the pitch and looked threatening.

The left side is a concern for us at the moment. If we play with Clayton then Gilly needs to try move into the space we saw on the left hand side Sunday night, as Ridehalgh had no options when the ball was played to him.

We can't afford to sit back and defend and invite pressure, if Hughes thinks we can then he really hasn't learnt anything from this season. The Gillingham game should be fresh in people's minds, abandoning our natural game to get back into and lead the tie just to throw it all away by sitting deep for the last 10min.

I'd take the most boring 0-0 with no chances to either side right now, but that ain't going to happen.

Agree. The most obvious player to me to leave upfield would be Banks. Probably our fastest player and they wouldn't dare risk leaving him one on one so would have to leave at least 2 players back with him

I noticed that Carlisle regularly left Patrick upfield as a outlet, worked well a couple of times too, he just didn't do anything with it.
Absolutely hate the everyman back attitude.

I've been saying this for ages and it is the one thing that really annoys me about MH - we completely invite our own issues with this way of playing.

Not only does having someone up give us an attacking outlet / reduce the number of balls that come back in, but it reduces the number of people the opposition will have in the box trying to score against us.

It's one of those where you think "what am I missing?" - like, what good is having that extra person in the box a) if you can't defend for toffee and b) if you're going to let one in from a 2nd-phase attack?

I'm with you it makes no sense, but the majority of teams do it bringing 10 outfield players back, knowing certain players are more of a hinderance to there fellow defenders, the likes of Elsa, Banks, Nevers, Chapman are not renowned for their heading ability be have pace so leave them up field, the opposition would need two defenders back as they wouldn't go one on one IMO.

Let's hope so, but even if he has a mare tomorrow he isn't going to be short of offers and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he hasn't already got 2 or 3 offers on the table.

If we can manage to secure promotion this season, and offer him a deal, I think he’d snatch our hands off. Loved by the fans, knows the club inside out, lives local. A lot of pro’s as opposed to cons to sign for us permanently

I think the direct opposite should happen I think we should surprise them by coming out and throwing everything at them to try and get an early goal which would make it very difficult for them. In the end though if we leave everything on the field and give everything then we can’t ask anymore whatever the result

I just want a 90 min performance. Something we’ve not had very often all season.
But if it has to be a 45 min performance then I hope it’s the first half and we go in 2-0 up at half time.
