Its quite a predictable action and easy to counter. Especially when you are at home.
it would have played right into Carlisle hands.

Its much harder to break an defensive side than an attacking side. Why do you think we lost more times to lower end teams? We leave space which they used.
Which actually points to poor defending.

like i said before if banks was on the pitch that goal would have still gone in.

Ash taylor was signed to stop goals from crosses into the box. Thats what cost us.

surely it speaks volumes about playing defensive when your own defenders can’t defend a cross? If we can’t defend against rochdale how do you expect to defend against carlise? By attacking? Worth noting the winner from carlise was scored after quickly turning over possession… so proves my point well.

if it was as easy as “go for it” every team would be winning 10-0.

    which obviously would be impossible.

I just ignore him as he thinks mocking disabled people is fair game.

so to answer your question bronco its when people do that.

hes not actually bothered about debate, i think he just wants to take the p*** out of people to make himself feel better.

aka a troll (my opinion of course)

I think we all know and probably even Hughes knows himself that was a bad substitution.
You’re right, when we equalised they sank and so did their crowd. At that point and within the next 5 minutes we could have and probably would have scored again.

Just to be clear, one poster cannot block another poster from seeing their posts or from responding to them. You can choose of your own accord not to read it but you cannot be excluded from reading them. To nfer that you've somehow been 'blocked' from reading another poster's contributions is misleading. On the other hand, a poster can choose to ignore another poster's stuff for whatever reason they want. It means that the poster cannot see what the 'ignored' poster has posted and therefore not be able to respond. Why you might want to do that, defeats me.

Somebody please point out to him that with Platt on the pitch we still "conceded the goal"?

And Banks may actually have stopped that goal as we wouldn't have lost momentum and been camped in our own half and letting them sling balls into our box.

Taking Banks off for a centre half while level in the game was the wrong decision and I'm astounded that we have posters trying to justify Hughes method of trying to "hang on for penalties".

I find fellow posters not quoting the post they are replying to far more difficult to follow, they know who they are [IMG]

You know my opinion on that particular game and the outcome, but to then make the same call 4 games later where we needed a positive result is criminal.

There are so many ifs and buts but we lost this tie because we thought one nil was good enough at home

Actually winning at home in a play off semi final was a bit of a rarity for us, the way our defence had been playing we knew Carlisle would need 2 goals at least and the way Cook had been sticking the ball in the net we haven't had too many games where we didn't score.
Getting back into the tie so late into the game IMO giving the 11 on the pitch a massive lift, we had 14 minutes left and should have been on the ascendance, we've seen it so many times especially at Valley Parade where we have been in front then the opposition score and we drop deeper and deeper it would have been interesting to see how Carlisle would have responded to that set back but our manager thought differently, so I find it hard to look anywhere else but the dug out and the strange call Hughes made, sorry mate we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I don’t think we thought 1-0 was good enough. It’s the fact we weren’t good enough to score the second goal as was the case for the majority of home games throughout the season.
When you play 1 up front at home you get what you deserve.

I certainly agree with that the substitution was criminal coming from a manager with a playing background like him. In fact his whole approach to tactics seem the opposite of the character he had has a player

One of the worst substitutions I’ve seen in 35 years of going to City. Our tails were up and we simply handed the initiative back to them on a plate. Absolutely criminal at that stage of the game in a play off tie.

Me neither, I’m still absolutely fuming every time I think about it.
Unless Hughes gets us promoted or becomes drastically more positive then that sub will be his City legacy because to so many people it summed up his negativity.
