Is he willing to learn Park He threw 2 points away home to Gillingham by subbing an attacker with a CB. How many times in the short time since has he repeated that?

Possibly the worst substitution this season

How are they completely unsuited to the division?

Leyton Orient just won the division, they play the same tactics but they have younger, better midfielders.

They paid money for Hull midfielder George Moncur, we signed Richie Smallwood on a free.

There's been a massive difference, with Moncur getting 9 league goals and driving the club forward with pace and energy.

Smallwood has looked like an old man by comparison, and Clayton looks even older.

I'm hoping I addressed this in the post above.

Smallwood has been a major let down, and Clayton plays like a 40 year old. Gilliead is likeable, but kind of hopeless.

We need better, younger, fitter, more athletic midfielders.

They are available, but usually for a fee.

    Rupp?!

Impatient?? Jon our fans were superb today and deserve so much more than the negative shite Hughes has served up for much of the season. The guy has been a massive disappointment, with the support he has been given we really should have achieved more. I hope he stays as can't believe he won't have learnt many lessons at this level, not least that a 3 man midfield that always goes backwards is not the way forwards!

Totally embarrassing to blame fan impatience this evening

I mean look at the names you’ve quoted. Is it any surprise they haven’t worked? We knew exactly what we were getting with the majority of them too.
I think the appointments are crap. I don’t think there is any kind of plan behind the scenes running the club. Like I say, Sparks turned down Wellens in the summer and went for the big name in Hughes. I can see why he did it, but it hasn’t worked and look at the brand of football Orient played and their league position.
We desperately need someone who is above the manager that knows football because Rupp and Sparks know very very little.

But you're saying let's roll the dice and change the Manager again?
All those Manager's have had success elsewhere.

I appreciate you're frustrated but changing the Manager is the last thing we need.

We're not far away. 3/4 quality signings in the summer and we'll be knocking on the door again.
    Keep the faith.

The morning after the night before and I'm still fuming. I can handle losing - we've come to expect it. But to spend 170 mins not trying to attack is pathetic and its on Hughes. I think he needs to go. I can't really take another season of watching that 'style'. Id get on the blower to Steve Evans. He'd take us up and the football would be better to watch.

Just had a closer look at their third. Surely we have practiced in training how to set up with a back 3?

Three players not marking one man? Criminal sunday league defending and what was Lewis doing-if he had stood still that ball would have been straight at him. We have been the architects of our own downfall all season. We lost out on autos due to our own fault. We need to learn from that and make next season a more consistent one and improve our home form.

At last , common sense. I said over the last few hours….We didn’t lose promotion over two legs playing Carlisle, we lost promotion because we couldn’t beat far lesser teams over the season that our challengers HAVE beaten.
Remember, we beat Stevenage twice, Salford twice, Northampton once. Our fault for not beating Crewe, Swindon, Rochdale, Hartlepool, Colchester away…..I could go on , but people’s are avoiding the main reason at the expense of our display yesterday. We SHOULD NOT have needed the play offs.

Yes i can only put it down to a massive heads gone moment as there is no other logical reason for it. The daft thing is I really would not have fancied our chances in a shoot out. Their keeper is a huge unit and other than Cook and perhaps Derbyshire I'm not sure i'd have had confidence in anyone else holding their nerve!

Agree Hughes bottled it and the substitute could go down as one of the worst ever. But I do agree with Steve that the players bottled it as well. The Smallwood attempt in the last minute was more like a pass back and one of the most pathetic attempts I’ve ever seen from a City player in such an important moment, would Jones or McCall have done that? Absolutely not. And don’t get me starting for the defending for the third goal, they fell asleep. Manager and players alike need a look at themselves after this season, because when the squad was assembled, although i predicted 6th I expected a lot better standard throughout the season. I can take losing, but there are ways to lose and this team heads drop so easily.

Agree. We need players who are mentally tough no matter what the situation is. Look at the Carlisle players they believed they could win, we looked like we were playing for a draw all match.

With regards the Carlisle match he said the decision was about taking it penalties, I just want him to have belief in his players and to let them express themselves within a formation that suits them

Somebody please point out to him that with Platt on the pitch we still "conceded the goal"?

And Banks may actually have stopped that goal as we wouldn't have lost momentum and been camped in our own half and letting them sling balls into our box.

Taking Banks off for a centre half while level in the game was the wrong decision and I'm astounded that we have posters trying to justify Hughes method of trying to "hang on for penalties".

Taking the winger off did not lose us the game, Putting another defender on did, The confusion it caused by the CBs then leaving the ball not knowing who was responsible between them with the extra CB handed the goal on a plate to them. As an experienced manager Hughes should have known the danger of tinkering with the defence in the final minutes, Very poor management and hope he raises his game this season

I'd suggest bringing an extra defender on with only 12 minutes to go upset the formation at the back, its plain to see when the ball came in none of the 3 CD were in position to challenge for the cross giving the lad Barclay a free run and a free header, he put another big lad on admitting in his post match interview "to see the game out for penalties", I'll give Hughes credit for his honesty but it was a dumb change so late into the game. I
f we had been a goal to the good as we were against Gillingham its more logical Gillingham have to score to get anything from the game, but to make that change to take the game to penalties made no sense IMO, or he didn't have faith in the 11 on the pitch who had just got us back on level terms to maybe sneak another or see the game out in a positive manner than take it to penalties.
Just as an aside how many on here would have prefered Banks still on the pitch to take a penalty than in the dug out, no guarantees he would have scored but the kid must have been buzzing.

As long as we give a good account of ourselves, then what will be will be. Just can't cope with a repeat of Boxing Day, we were woeful that day

I think Carlisle will try TOO hard, and that will be their undoing. They'll come at us hard, we'll weather the pressure for 15/20 mins, then Cook will get his trademark goal against the run of play

Key for us is defending corners. They looked very dangerous from Moxon's excellent deliveries.
