I've no doubt Clayton will start. I dont think it's necessarily a case of going for it or sitting back. We'll keep it tight and try and nick the odd goal when we can-pretty much our standard MO for away games.
For people who feel that we are up against it, we are going away to a closely matched team and have effectively scored in the first minute. Next goal is crucial

 

I'd say they had the one massive chance with Edmunson's head that he should have scored with and one where they were through 1 on 1 with Lewis but Lewis stood up well. Other than that it was a lot of half chances or the ball bouncing around the box with a bit of luck going our way by falling to our player. I think he's continuing the narrative of playing the underdog and the world is against them, it was probably more of an interview for the players than for the fans.

 

Absolute idiot that feller. A homer ref is when the home team get every decision. For the way they shackled Cookie alone, without being penalised, proves he wasn't a homer. Just a fair ref, which is an extremely rare commodity these days. Maybe the refs are brought in from leagues above for the play-off games and that is why he was noticeably better - can anyone clarify?

 

Thats exactly what they did and it smacks of a desperation borne of struggling for goals. First half I thought they moved it around well although their centre backs weren't in the same class as ours with distribution and I felt they could easily have been got at by an attack minded set up. Banks had them back pedaling but was in his own. It's also a reason I'm not that worried about the second leg, if we play to anywhere near our away from we beat them.

 

We defend well but we are very poor at easing pressure. When under pressure we carry on with these little triangles often caught in possession or play a hurried misplace pass. Everybody drops deep and there is no outlet ball. Walker is usually nackered and Banks is back helping the full back out we need some real pace up front to play on the break

 

Cook gets this type of stuff every game yet referee's give him next to nothing.
When the hell are they going to start applying the rules of the game?

Like you say, levelling up money should not be used to fund private business, especially where the owners are mega rich.

This is true but it’s not a league game now.

The 1st leg does matter as we are at home and need to take some kind advantage for the second leg.

 

Mark Hughes football is awful to watch, it really is. No purpose or attacking intent at all.

 

Good result but not sure it will be enough. Both sides aren't very creative, a draw would have probably been a fair result. Banks stepped up to the plate tonight, really looked a higher level player and the rest put a shift in. Just disappointed we didn't go for it second half, we might well regret how negative we were second half agaisnt a spirited but limited side.

 

Big problem is both smallwood and clayton have no legs at all. Should be one or the other not both.

 

We won the game, end of story. Well done City. We play far better away from home and the next two games are away from Valley Parade so let’s get behind our players at Carlisle and Wembley and worry about our home form next season in division 1.

 

Better players playing the same system, I'm not sure he can change but as we've said before it's all about getting out of this league and Carlilse have to score twice at their place without conceding on tonight's showing I'm not sure they can even at home.
Did Lewis have a save to make all night, I can't remember their shot on target ?.

 

A win is a win. Think Gillead was excellent today. May god help us if we perform like that in the second leg or the final, should we get there. That second half was shocking
