Probably explain why none of the paths near any school have been cleared if everything has been diverted to the city centre

The last time that sort of question with regards schools and having equipment, snow plows etc we were told we did not get that sort of weather on a regular basis so it would be wasted money, that reply surprises me from Bradford Council.

Doesn’t surprise me. If you look back at the last few years, unlike Scandinavia, we’ve hardly ever had any snow that been at all deep or has lasted more than 24 hours. This current extensive cold snap is the first of its kind for years. Buying, storing and maintaining a load of very expensive equipment to use once a flood just doesn’t make economic sense.

Over the last 5 days 160+ schools in the area have been fully or part closed due to access issues and safety.

Looking at the T&A the City Centre is swimming in Grit down at Hinchcliffe Towers. So much so it reminds me of the Scarface scene where he is sat at his desk with a mountain of cocaine.

The priorities of the whole City is wrong. There were no way they were going to let this event be cancelled, but the education of tens of thousands of children is sacrificed without a thought. The most embarassing thing about this tonight is Bradford Live would have been a perfect fall back for something like this due to the minus temperatures that will no doubt keep some people away, but all we have for our £50m is an expensive bill board.

    that’s right.

it is like people have to legally have winter tyres and change them over there but it would be a pointless expense over here for a few days a year.

I'd be happy with a grit bin near our house, but we don't seem to have that luxury. I took some from a grit bin from where I work but only half a bucket full and I've managed to clear access to the main road for most of us.

Despite the expected negativity I hope tonight and the whole year benefits the city and the people of the area. 68 years of my life I spent there and still consider myself a Bradfordian. Let’s hope this showcases the best of all factions of the city.

I see the T&A have an article about tonight where zero commented have been posted so far, which is strange. However when reading it there is a disclaimer saying commenting is a privilege. So I guess they are blocking anything which asks why has there been no bin collections or schools opened and why is the City Park office which is half un-let being used for council VIPs to watch events indoors rather than with the public freezing outside?

I went down. A lot of it was out of sync, the performances were bit like GCSE stuff and there was a real lack of culture on show, in terms of Polish, Romanian etc and others who are often forgot but bring a lot to the city. Dynamo has become more like a Butlins entertainer but the crowd participation stuff was good fun. The rapping music was awful though

There was some Wallace and Gromit event at the Media Museum, so we stuck our head in and what a joke it.
City of Culture was know for ages and they have 6 floors of which 3 are shut and 1 is half open. They won't be back up to 6 floors till the summer.

Seems they have rushed the opening seeing as 3 floors are closed. It seems almost pointless opening it.
The Kodak bit is open, the Wonderlab is open and there was an event in floor 2. Floors 4, 5 and 6 were closed, which is a shame as I enjoy the computer game bit.

    I think they will.
They’ve always been honest, open and more than happy to tackle head on the big issues that blight the city.

    Probably.

Had an afternoon round Bradford with a few mates on Saturday, first time for a few years

Lord Clyde, was steady but a few in

Old Bank, just been renovated... steady but not too bad

    City vaults... see above

Drum winder.. full of crack heads

    Old crown... dead

Sunbridge Wells, top two floors totally closed , downstairs 4 people in at 8pm on a Saturday night

Can't see it staying open which is a real shame

Nightrain, saw a guns and roses tribute band... quite busy but average age 73

    Walked up to international

Had a mate who's from Bradford but now lives in York, not been round town for 22 years, he was shocked by the decline

No kids out, no couples out... RIP

I have to agree, You wonder in to Leeds and even though it's twice as expensive the bars are full, in Bradford it's just dead which is a shame especially for those who really are trying to make something of the City. North Parade is a shadow of what it was a few years ago with numerous of the bars now shut, and businesses up their blighted by over zealous parking wardens whilst 100 yards down the road pavement parking and fireworks in the street are just ignored.

I also see the council are refusing to tell us how much money is being spaffed on that upside down tower they have commissioned for the City of Culture, in a week where they are looking to put our council tax up 15%.
