Maybe because having lived through the changes most realise there is little future for the City of Bradford no matter how the council try to butter it up, as the Earl Of Newcastle said "pity poor Bradford.

Not true. City of Culture will be the catalyst we need for change. Ten years from now we will have a very different Bradford, not on the same scale, but in a similar way that the IRA bomb was a catalyst in Manchester, which was an absolute dump and on it's knees before 1996.

Not absolutely true. I used to go to Manchester in the late 80's and early 90's when it had the whole Madchester scene. Manchester was a far more dynamic city even back then. Far more than our close neighbours L@#ds.
I"d say the transformation of Leeds has been more significant given that it was the poor relation to Manchester (still is in my opinion).
It pains me to say it (as a Bradfordian) but the city is a third world shit hole because of the people and this city of culture bs is like putting lipstick on a long dead pig. No matter how many festivals and cycle paths you put in Bradford it will never get out of the downward spiral it's been on for decades.

How are they going to move on all the scum that lurks around the City centre, selling drugs, using as a race track, shop lifting or getting spiced up?

Manningham looks like a shanty town with all the rubbish on the streets. Then into the city centre you are greeted by numerous vaping, mobile, cash for gold shops and a million takeaways which are probably used for money laundering.

That aint changing anytime soon unless you move people on. Because you aint got a chance in hell of changing them.

Don’t want to spoil the party but most City and Town Centre’s throughout the UK are just the same.

I can speak for perhaps two that are on a different planet close by, Cambridge and Norwich . Just like you guys can relate to Manchester and Leeds .

Out of town “ malls”, warehouse style retail shops and online have killed probably 95% of the places I’m familiar with. For those that don’t get around too often ( not a pop) Bradford certainly isn’t an outlier, far from it.

If he's recently been to Hull, who won it in 2017, he'll swiftly realise that he's not.

Well TBH we arent really talking about other Cities are we? Do we excuse the shithole that is Bradford CC because there are other shitholes in the UK?

But as you brought others into it - Bradford is a major City in terms of size . It doesn't have a lot going for it where as Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield, even Birmingham have some redeeming qualities. They all have a reason to visit - what is Bradfords?

That’s probably the most incorrect and ridiculous statement I’ve ever seen.

Bradford city centre is by far and away the biggest third world cesspit than any other City centre I’ve been to and I’ve visited the vast majority in England. We’re like a sodden entity of our own right.

Agreed. Manchester and Leeds aren't remotely comparable to Bradford, you can't use the excuse that every city on earth has a shithole area.

Just head down any of the main routes in to the centre of Bradford (Leeds rd,Gt Horton,Manchester rd,Wakefield rd) and if you can avoid getting run over by cars going 70mph if you’re lucky, accosted by beggars, dodging the spiced up zombies crossing the roads, then the delight that is the city centre full of vape shops and Turkish barbers will be waiting for you.
What’s not to like about next years City of Culture?

All brought to you by successive failing governments and councils. Yet the masses will still vote in the two major parties to fook us up even more....nationally and locally.

Put a red rosette on a pile of dogshit and it gets the Labour vote. The Tories will always mop up the old timers because they dont like change and will simply vote to keep Labour out.

    Liverpool & Sheffield ……reallly?

The most deprived City in the UK is Liverpool according to some numbers I just looked at,
A reasonable breakdown if you want to read.

I moved out over 30 years ago for the job so I wouldn’t have a clue. Don’t miss the ONLY point I made, Bradford is NOT ON ITS OWN, not that it has some redeeming qualities , however it does within >10 miles of the City Centre.

Liverpool is a fantastic City centre now Kev. I go 3 or 4 times a year if I can and there's always plenty going on with new shops, bars and fun stuff to do popping up all over the place. It also has live music virtually all day and everywhere you go. It really is a brilliant day/night out if anyone is looking for a weekend somewhere.
