My point is aimed more at people going on about him being highly rated BB. Most players at academy level have smoke blown up their arse from a young age. Its what you achieve, not what you could have achieved. For what its worth i think Anderson will do a job for us, but its similar to the Payne situation, i lost count the amount of times i’ve heard he’s this and that. Counts for nothing if you don’t do it on the pitch.

No understand what you're saying mate and I do agree. He was very highly rated, a result of 2 career threatening injuries he isn't highly rated anymore and needs to prove he's a player again. The onus is on him at league 2 level to prove he can be a stand out!

Of course there are lots of players who show potential at youth level who don’t make the grade and are released. And a few go on to have good careers proving the doubters wrong. I think to many stay to long at big clubs which inhibits there progress

2 ACL injuries before he's 21, he's got gonads to still be even playing at that level tbf to him

I did my MCL twice as a teenager and it's completely shot, like you I'm surprised he's playing.

He wasn’t bad when he played last season, Anderson, though he was often a bit ‘meh’. But if he gets a good pre-season behind him then he may well turn out to be our Will Atkinson - as others have already suggested on the forum.

It sounds like McCartan is happy to be here againnow, which is good to hear.

It is going to be interesting to see where he fits in. Donaldson and Vaughan will start every week, which rules out us playing two wide men around a lone forward and a number 10 in behind, with two defensive anchors further back.

He could start at the tip of a diamond but then that would lessen the chance of Scannell or indeed any wingers starting.

This is what pre-season is for I guess. Personally I hope we set up with good old 4-4-2 for as long is Scannell is fit. If Ismael is currently front of the queue for LW then Anderson and Akpan, of those currently available, will add defensive balance. Do think we could do with an upgrade in there though.

Is there any stats on young players who are overlooked at original club and go on to have a good career and at what level? Then clubs can try and work out what is the risk factor.

Opinions are what they are. Luckily as predicted a quality CM lands without a departure. There were a few hints this would happen but no guarantees. Hope this allays some concerns.

Yeah you cant judge a player based on his CV if it starts high and goes backwards is your point. This is sometimes true (Ben Muirhead) and sometimes not (Jamie Vardy). It's as logically flawed to say these players cant make it as it is to say they will. Individual success depends on so many variables does it not?

Yeah a lot of variables. Ability the most important but there are a lot of cases where a players attitude has got them further than their talent should have really allowed. There are times when a player is just at the wrong club at the wrong time, a manager has a certain way of playing which negates the best assets of said player. There is no set hard and fast rule to measure the potential of a player.

Anybody else watched his 15 minute press conference today? Every time I hear the bloke talk I'm convinced that he's a bloody good fit for our football club.

Not seen it but I’ve been confident in him since day one. Even with the bad results last year. He will be a success here. Just have that feeling

And before anyone asks, no I’m bringing any data or analysis to it. It’s my opinion.

one of the reasons i think hes worth a season at least, one of the few where i dont doubt his character but its whether he can get back to the level he was at pre injuries

I hope not. Atkinson improved from absolutely dire to extremely poor. Let's hope Anderson is at least three levels above that.
