OK, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I reckon Anderson is going to do a good job in our midfield this season. He was a highly rated prospect at higher level not that long ago, before getting injured.
I thought there were flashes of a good player shown at times last season, albeit in small amounts, but enough to make me think that if he gets proper match fitness in a happy and balanced team he could turn out to be an asset.

Much less confident about Akpan though. He obviously has plenty of ability but seems to lack the heart to make proper use of it.

What none of us know is just how much the toxic environment created by Edin's shitshow affected each of the individual players. I know I'm clutching at straws here, but I'm hoping that at least some of last year's wastes of space will be rejuvenated under Bowyer's regime and will perform like good new signings.
This may be complete wishful thinking, but I'm trying to be positive in case we don't manage to sign more proven quality midfielders, as we'd all like.

What I will say about our midfield is, it may not be mouth-watering, but there are plenty of options. If Bowyer can find the right balance, players like Anderson and McCartan might be able to influence games - I'd still much rather we strengthened, though.

Agree, we don’t want to be hanging on until January like the last few seasons, only to sign a player who is no better.

    Our midfield is currently sh@te.

Anyone, that doesn't think so needs to give their head a wobble.

We so need to sign a midfielder or two soon.

Not at all, but likewise there is no suggestion he wants any of them to leave or that he’s managed to offload any in any case.

We were fortunate that Edinburgh sought out Wright, but those ‘mistakes’ don’t come along often. He did us a favour, but let’s not pretend this is going to be the case with our other high earning midfield flops.

Fact remains, we currently have 5 central midfielders on the books, with a contract offer still on the table for a 6th player. With no sign that Akpan or McCartan are leaving, I repeat that I can’t see Bowyer bringing in any more midfielders until one or both leave

I class him as an attacking midfielder or even further forward, playing just behind a main striker. But others have said they want us to sign a play-maker. I just don’t see Bowyer signing a player like that until he moves McCartan on to help pay for him

Maybe the selections in the first few friendlies will send a message to those he wants rid of. If it looks like they're not going to be involved, they make seek moves elsewhere. There's also the chance Akpan and McCarten could be sent out on loan, so all is not doom and gloom. I'd hope at least one left winger and a central midfielder will join, either on loan or permanent before too long.

Last thing Bowyer wants to do is to upset a few of these top earner, banish them from the squad like Hopkin did with some of them and then find out they can't move on and be stuck with unhappy players and a high wage. This way all players have something to fight for with a manager who they will like and fight for then if an offer does come in for them then we can get rid if needed.

I don't disagree with your logic. I just dont quite get the dissapointmentbat buying some fillers.

Wright to LO had been on the cards for months. You agree mccarten isnt a CM so who else can play except akpan? He needed some bodies I reckon. I think he will bring in one more good CM even if nobody leaves. If players do leave then we may see one in one out.

But my point is, he has signed 2 midfielders this summer already. You refer to them as ‘squad fillers’ but Bowyer may actually think they will be challenging Akpan for a start. Are we expecting 2 enforcers, or 1 with the other midfielder being more a playmaker? If so, does he not see that role for Gibson, Colville, Anderson or even McCartan?

He may see it for Anderson - he certainly played him a lot, and he's got a very similar profile to Harry Anderson, who was promoted with Lincoln City without any problems. Jermaine actually has a boat load more experience than Harry, and is only a year older.

I think Bowyer is expecting big things from Anderson this season, he certainly looks like his recent injury problems are behind him the way he is performing at training, as I posted the other day always at the front.

He was very highly rated at arsenal as a kid so hopefully bowyer can get that out of him I think he’s gonna be a very good player for us this season

Whilst the midfield is important, you get out of this league by being good in both penalty areas. Very glad that he’s started with this as they are the most important areas in league 2.

I’m all for giving him a game but this ‘He was highly rated at Arsenal’ somewhat amusing. He’s had to drop to league 2 to get a regular gig, being supposedly highly rated at Arsenal has no relevance, hence my comment regarding Riley. Our new signing from Walsall was ridiculously highly rated at Wolves, he signed a three year deal with them on the back of it. He’s now with us, his ninth club. See what i’m getting at.

Being fair to Anderson RT he's played 98 games, not sure how many of them are cup games but he's never played below L1 level.

Anderson has had two career threatening injuries which would slow any players progress
