For me and I know I'm in a very small minority, GA has handled Pointon perfectly.

During the Hughes/McDonald and start of the GA regime, we got the law of diminishing returns from Pointon as there was still more that he could give. A spell outside the team at this time, November, wasn't seen as terrible.

Plenty of managers have faced criticism about not playing youngsters quickly enough - Pep with Foden is a classic example. However, I believe they have to be held back, to a degree, for their benefit and we are now saying how good Booby is (and his play now is miles better than when he first came into the team).

He's playing far better now that he was at the start of the season, to not praise his coach (who has also improved Oyegoke, Kelly and and most impressively Halliday) for this improvement is churlish. An example is the Harrogate (home) match where he looked like a little boy lost - yet in recent games against similar teams in Barrow and Walsall he looked like an experienced campaigner, in comparison.

Yes, we can rightly wonder if Pointon put into the team during January would have worked - but I've a feeling that GA's careful management, will be prove to be more or a benefit.

We as a club shouldn’t even be thinking about cashing in any player until we have sorted out this mess. Rupp has promised more money so the question of selling good players shouldn’t come into it!

How do they get away with such libelous shite?! I absolutely detest the gutter press

I know Bobby, he is City through & through and this is a dream come true for him. He gives us an extra dimension, sometimes the fancy flicks don't come off but it is all part of his apprenticeship as in any walk of life. There is no way he is looking to move on

The only way he goes, is if he continues the way he started and finishes his debut season as successful as he started it, and a big club comes in for him with a silly offer the club won't turn down. Until then, he is at home

Ryan "Youth Development" Sparks has once again gone for a manager that doesn't fit with his ethos even a tiny bit.

Just like he did with Derek Adams.

    Another fine move from Ryan!

There is a valid argument about whether Pointon has the ability or is ready to be a player that helps us towards where we want to be. He's certainly shown flashes of quality but also disappointed on occasions such as away at Colchester - of course that's to be expected with a young player.

Putting that to one side, Pointon's omission highlights the complete lack of a plan when it comes to the footballing side of things. We've heard the sustainability line, but if that really is the case then surely there is some onus on developing a path from the youth team to the first team. The potential that Pointon had shown and fan excitement surrounding him was surely raised with Alexander during interviews.

Pointon isn't the only example of bizarre management of young players over recent years. Reece Staunton rewarded with a four year contract only to be sold to Park Avenue halfway through. Kian Scales given a two year deal, only to play two league games before being released at the end of that contract. Finn Cousin-Dawson awarded a three year contract only to spend most of that time at Blyth. We can expect his release in the summer.

Fair enough, ultimately these players might not be good enough. But the club valued them highly enough to reward them with good contracts only to completely abandon them in amongst multiple changes of approach led by Sparks. Pointon appears destined to become the latest that is lost due to the impact of a football club having no footballing philosophy.

Yes along with other players had talks with Alexander that went well. Talks broke down soon after with Sparks , Bobby asked for pool table in Concourse of main stand should he win Northernmonkey’s Pool cue.

Wilson is also being ignored yet he looks a prospect when given game time.

If GA was making the right changes and giving young players a chance, I would say he needs more time but I think I've seen enough now to know he's not the right man for the job. He needs to go, as does Sparks

Agree unless there are strikers on their way out a club with the likes of Cook, Young. Kavanagh, Smith, adding the likes of Walker, Pattison, Pointon and maybe Wright to help out were starting to look a formidable side going forward.

Whether Pointon turns out to be an ace or rubbish matters not if he can't get on the pitch in that match tonight, he could have replaced anyone, except the goalie.
Absolutely crying out for him and Wilson to come on, my god what was there to lose.

George Green certainly wasn't looked after at Everton during his academy time unbeknown to the club, I was told that's where he and other young players started sneaking out at nigh drinking etc.
With regards Bobby Pointon I was told yesterday he has already signed a new contract, time will tell but good business for both parties if true.

Morais said on the radio that if any deals were done before the end of the season players will find out about it and it would be bad PR for the club and lose players confidence.

GA said no one has been spoken to until next week about contracts.

Both those point to next week being an exciting one for the fans as we get to see how hard the cull will be.

Pointon will be on £400 a week max right now. A new contract should be £1K min a week. Maybe more. That lad has talent and we should be keeping him as long as we can.

Yes the club are sticking to that line, and as I have said there is no way I can prove otherwise, but the comment came from our CEO now I'm not commenting on where it was said that would not be fair on the guy who told me and it would be obvious to Ryan where it came from.

Do we really believe everything the club tell fans with regards the workings of what's going on behind the scenes I don't think so.

Whether we believe the article or not, if his contract does run out next summer, we need to act now and offer to extend

I’m not sure if we were sting that bad, for instance we managed to move all 3 on and I doubt they cost the earth. It’s not like a Jack Rodwell at Sunderland bleeding the club dry. They’re young lads and clubs lower down will often take a punt on young players from higher up, no matter the level.

for me I can’t criticise the club here and hope we continue with the same philosophy, because it only takes one to come good and you’re well protected then. If Patrick for instance had scored 20 goals that season for instance we’d be quids in.

I really do hope we give him a contract soon, not only has he impressed but he has a great back story and I wish football had more of this type than the lads behaving badly that you often get with footballer’s.

Yes he was younger than Bobby, but i think a better footballer, He was not looked after and given too much at an early age which has ruined his life.

The GA interview confirmed the timelines. Staff meeting tomorrow. Players meetings Tues/Wed. Recruitment starts now as we aren't in play offs and he wants a stronger pre season to get players fitter than this season. Fitness programmes for all players. Fingers crossed for news on contracts soon.

Simple answer is you don't. Walker should play in the midfield role he has taken up recently rather than a front three as he has been really effective there instead of Gilly, Pointon stays where he is and Pattison is the go to option to replace Pointon if he's unfit.

The front three of Pointon, Cook & Kav has started to click, don't mess with it by trying to shoehorn Pattison in.

I dont think we need to tinker too much now GA seems to have found his best formation. A new right sided centre half, keep Stubbs as Platt's understudy, Kelly has improved massively, and though I wouldn't have said this a few weeks ago, Smallwood has improved massively with Walker alongside him. Just never let his take a corner.

He will make mistakes but he gives more good than bad. He is worth the risk of a long run. One thing I can see its not lack of effort or ability but if he his involved lots he will mess up now and again. Deffo worth persevering with...he his not out of is depth
