Away vs Swindon Jan 4th 2020

I only live 20mins away from Swindon and I'm not really sure if I can be bothered. After trekking up to watch whatever that was at Carlisle, I'm lacking the enthusiasm to watch us get walloped by a decent Swindon side and then have to suffer the banter I will get at the golf club on Sunday morning.

Will probably make a call on Saturday morning if it's pay on the gate.

 

You got the wifi back on at Lynfield Mount I see.

 

If we came away with a 0-0 draw from Swindon in doing so, I would take that

 

If we go there with the full intention of winning the game and it ends a draw then fair enough but the aim shouldn’t be to stifle the game.
This is a fantastic opportunity to close the gap to 3 points to Swindon and also open up an 8 point gap to 8th place, let’s not waste it

 

Go gung ho and throw caution to the wind and they might carve us open and beat us, and the gap becomes 9 points?

 

Have to agree. The season is far from over, still lots of points to play for. However if we were in Swindon’s position I would be far happier preventing one of my rivals gaining ground on us, therefore think this is the intent we have to go in with. Chance for us to put some pressure on them, on a big pitch which could give our wingers space to run at them.

No one will argue with Bowyer if he sets us up to go at them but it’s not successful. However set up cautiously and get punished, then the daggers will be out.

 

This sounds like the perfect time to play swindon with the players they have unavailable. Ismail had a cracking game in the reverse fixture, their LB shit himself anytime Zeli got the ball. We've missed his flair and unpredictability in recent weeks I think so I hope to see him start with Connolly on the other side against what appears to be a makeshift swindon defence.

 

Come away with anything from Swindon and its a bonus. Exactly the sort of game where you can set up to frustrate.

 

Agree, away games at Swindon will not be the determining factor as to whether we go up. We already beat them at home which allows us a point as a great result.

 

They will have watched us a few times and know we play 5-3-2, Lets surprise them ( and us ) by going 4-4-2 and take the game to them

 

You mean like the way we surprised them last time when we played 4-4-2?

I'ts OK I'm not going so they won't find me, unless they send a hit man up to Bradford, I don't think I've offended anyone, maybe the guy who said the clue was in the "season long loan gives it away" .

 

Have you ever had a manager you don't agree with and left the Country ground frustrated and scratching your head?

 

We are fans many long standing and as fans you like your team to play attacking football no matter what players you have available.
Where as Bowyer looks at the players available and picks a formation that he believes will get him a result.
Wednesday being a prime example, he selected a very defensive line up and formation, for 60 minutes we were dire and the crowd were getting restless and started chanting attack attack attack, he then made two changes attacking players changed our formation to 4-4-2 and we got all 3 points

 

So if we go there and go gung ho and lose you won’t be on here afterwards having a go at Bowyer

 

Bowyer is looking to get the results, some of the fans want us to do that in style as well. It's not always possible to do both

Personally, I think we're on course to win the league, or walk the top 3 anyway. We have the best home form in the top four leagues, bar Liverpool, our best for 35 years. We have the best defence in the league and, as the old adage goes, strikers win you games but defences win you titles. In the last 15 games, only you have a better record (on goal difference) and we're about to take half your goals out of your team.

All this with a lengthy injury list and 3 games over xmas where a sickness bug ran through the team but we still managed to get 7 points AND nobody shat themselves on the pitch! In the coming weeks we should be getting Ismael, Donaldson, Devitt and Doyle to add to this incredibly solid foundation.

When you have such a good baseline to work from, the performances tend to take care of themselves after a while. And, even if they don't, I'll take scraping boring 1-0 wins til the end of the season and getting out of this league at the first time of asking rather than spending 6 years watching it every week last time, now that was boring to watch.
