One thing our friends in Leeds are very fortunate with is that nobody revived a Leeds City when they went defunct. To have just one club in the City is a massive boost. It’s what crippled Bradford football in the last century, support split in two between two clubs meant that neither Bradford clubs thrived. In fact before Revie revived Leeds Utd, City and Avenue between us got crowds as big as Leeds did at the time.

Which is why I have always been dismayed by any prospect of a Bradford PA revival. A couple of years back they were making a serious bid to get back into the Football League, which would have been disastrous for City. Thankfully that momentum has gone into reverse.
I've never understood why some City fans want the Stans to do well. I know some older fans have fond memories of local derbies but, as you say, having two FL teams in the city ensured that neither would thrive. The last thing City need, in our current doldrums, is for PA to add to local competition for paying fans.

If anyone really thinks that the reason there was no success, football wise, in Bradford was that there were two teams then you are are deluding yourself.

Up until the 1920s the Bradford teams did have some success.

But overall Bradford as a city has never 'invested' in it's sporting teams or venues. Ultimately Bradford never really supported their sporting clubs to the degree that other cities and towns did. In addition there has always been a small town feel about them. Look beyond the football teams, the rugby league, Northern, team, a few more ups than City or Avenue but it only in a very local, regional sport, but now almost gone, the rugby union team is the Bradford and Bingley and where are they? Do we have a Ice Hockey team like Sheffield etc? No. Do we have basketball...no...do we have a major stadium. No. VP is not a major stadium. The whole city reeks of failure in these areas and the fact that there were two football league teams is not a reason...Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham, Stoke, Sheffield, Newcastle (I am including Gateshead who were a league team) anymore for anymore?

    Pitiful attempt at an excuse.

I am hopeful we get a striker in, I'm still going to hold my breath for October 16th as a lot of clubs will know who they can loan out. Bit of a shame we couldn't get Hiwula in regardless but again window hasn't closed. Possibly he is holding out for a higher league.

Out of interest, why don't other clubs know by now who they might be loaning out to lower league clubs?

Rubbish , how can you not say having two clubs splitting the support doesn’t harm a team. If Leeds had 2 clubs they wouldn’t have had anything like the success they enjoyed.

Thanks for explaining that and apologies; I thought you were having a go at me. I wasn't at the chip van game but knew a lot of Leeds fans at the time who were just as disgusted as you. I understand your feelings though. I went down to Reading for our cup game and some of he actions of their fans, players AND club disgusted me so much, I still want them o lose every game.

What you say about investing in sport is undoubtedly true. But that doesn't alter the fact that splitting our, already limited, support base would significantly harm us.

if they land a signing, its possible that a player becomes excess to requirements. Therefore are loaned out or sold.

Players that are that close to a first team squad in the Premier league won't be coming to L2 on loan anyway, so I don't think that's applicable to us.

Great strategy! We'll just wait and see who others sign and take on their cast-offs at the last minute when we're desperate!

Hull, until maybe 10-12 years ago had never been in the top division. One club City.

Sheffield, four years ago they were rivals, now they’ve spent give or take £20m on a player for the fourth time. Two club city.

Nottingham. Two club city, two European Cups.

Stoke. Port Vale are poor but Stoke City have done ok.

Liverpool. Both teams are a bit shit really, never won much, two club city. Maybe three if you count Tranmere

Manchester. Ok so one doesn’t play in Manchester but two club city.

Edinburgh. Glasgow, Bristol, Birmingham, Dundee. All have two clubs with success.

But yeah. If Park Avenue came back in to the league City would be shit.

I for one always looked forward to the derby matches not always "friendly rivalry" but Bradford on the whole was buzzing on match day I would welcome them back to the league but would like to think we would be at least two leagues ahead by the time they get there. Historically Park Avenue were a better team than us with larger crowds bigger ground etc something for us to aspire to
Bradford and outlying districts is big enough to become a two team City again sadly it is largely populated with fans of that other team down the M621
They were fortunate that when Park Avenue folded a lot of "Stans" converted to them (quite a few before that I imagine as well) and the rest is history
A bit of local healthy competition never did anyone any harm indeed may just inspire our heirachy to better things and realise we have to compete for support rather than banging out cheap season tickets forever and a day and hoping for the best

But what if we aren't two leagues ahead? It's perfectly possible that we could still be languishing in L2 if and when BPL got promoted to L2. Do you really believe that wouldn't affect our existing crowds or hamper our attempts to increase our crowds? In such circumstances they would be on a roll and we'd be in the doldrums. It's much more likely that youngsters would choose to follow them rather than us because they'd be the club with momentum.
And the fact that we are so close to Leeds is still a significant ceiling factor in our crowd potential, especially now they are back in the PL. So the longer that BPA aren't added to the serious competition the happier I'll be.
