It sounds like Guthrie , had a decent game again today . An assist and forced a good save from the keeper to keep it 3-2.
The lad might yet come good. I for one am willing to give him a chance and not judge him on the few minutes , when he had just signed for a new club before lockdown.

Oh no, you're quite right. I fully agree and chose my words carefully.

The appointment of Parkinson and the trust that was put in him is the only part that makes the word i used "overwhelming" rather than "absolute"

It's not disrespectful to say that Rhodes with Parkinson was amongst the best times of supporting Bradford. Rhodes without Parkinson though is an absolute horror show resulting in a record of relegations, administrations and failure that are difficult to compare to any other football club owner and therefore his continued role as silent CEO is difficult to view as a positive.

    Hopefully a heavy defeat....

We might need more signing but come on - actually hoping we get battered in the first round of the cup is ridiculous. The negativity on this site sometimes is a joke

If the players go in with that attitude they would be murdered on this site - ffs lets get behind them (at least until it does all go pear shaped!)
And I dont think getting hammered at Bolton will achieve what you want, Stuart is obviously trying to hold out for the right players and all you are advocating will likely result in options lower down our wish list joining. The ones he wants are going to take a bit of time, irrespective of whether or not we get swiped at Bolton

We have had problems in the past with players commuting from afar although i'm not sure thats all the reasons behind Maynard not wanting to come here. Having just read Width of a post latest article, a lot of points in the article are what we've been banging on about for years, the fact we need a coherent long term plan. As i'v said before, covid 19 has temporarily put on hold the normalities in football but even before that this club has no long term structure in place as to what it wants to be in say 5/10/15 years time. And what better place to start with a long term transfer policy that doesn't see us having our pants pulled down time and again.

I'm not sure what's sensible about it? We're very short in several areas. Our season starts in 48 hours.

Agreed, the sort of players we'll be enquiring about are not ones that are on the fringes of the first team, they are the ones that are either going to be loaned out or will be playing in the under 23s. If clubs are telling us we need to wait, it's because they are hoping a club in a higher division are going to come in for their player. Waiting and hoping that doesn't happen is a very dangerous game : if they aren't prepared to say yes now, we should move on and look elsewhere.

A dicking makes no sense, and something I would never want my team to be on the receiving end of, especially now we have a salary cap.

Rupp made a comment on SMc's track record in 'cup' games not long after the Millwall play-off final. Rupp (not Rahic) said that the club wouldn't be able to compete against the big spenders such as Sunderland for an automatic spot and our best hope for promotion would be via the play-offs. Despite his apparent lack of football knowledge, he described the play-offs as being akin to a series of cup games and that we'd demonstrated that cup games weren't our strength. That's when I thought SMc's remaining future with the club would be a short one.

One of the most expensive fee paying schools around the area, where parents pay top money for the best education that includes various sports.
There was never a problem until Mr I'm a Championship manager used it as one of his excuses not to take the job, looks like Rahic wasn't the only one to take the bait.

Donaldson 16 goals in last four seasons
Guthrie 35 goals in last four seasons

Exactly. I think the 'Big Crowds' thing is overstated - and its a non issue at the minute because crowds aren't even allowed in!! Lower league footballers are like most professionals; their selection process will be driven by a combination of wages/contract length, chances of success, location. They'll speak to people they know for insight into what's going on with the club. And our recent history simply won't be attractive. With the salary cap now in place, we can't offer anything that materially attracts players. And sadly, I know of a couple of people who work in sports media and the commercial side of football, who don't paint a pretty picture about the level of vision, strategy and leadership at the top of the club. So we can't even sell 'the project' to players. McCall is a players-manager. A great guy who I can see a number of players wanting to play for. I think he'll be well spoken of, so for all that some don't entirely rate him as a manager, he's probably one of the few things that might help us get certain players.

    2 big differences:

    1) Bolton are still paying big contracts.
    2) Bolton can still genuinely claim to be a big club. Yes they're in a mess, but I've no doubt that at some point in the next few years, they'll find some investment and be fine. At the very least a good League 1 side, probably a championship side again within 5 years or so.

We can't profess to be big at this level, not any more. Any time we find ourselves down here, we make a pigs arse of a job, getting back up.

What was the Vaughan situation? He was happy to come here - he just didn't like what he found. An unprofessionally run outfit, with a manager that didn't want to play attacking football. He wanted out. I don't blame him. The 'Vaughan situation' is really 'the how in the hell are we running our club' situation. We need to be a club that can attract players, and we need to be a club that can identify the right sort of player. We've had since January to identify and recruit a decent striker. We haven't. There are no real excuses for that.

Absolutely correct it's such a frustration season upon season the way we go about business. I just wish the club would sign players to shut us up. Instead of signing players such as Will Keane who's failed everywhere he's been, I'd much prefer us to sing the lad at Palace and go for an upcoming striker such as Tshimanga at Boreham Wood or Jorome Slew from Maldon and Tiptree who tore Leyton Orient apart last season, who is also Sheffield born, without a club as wanted league football, so worth a look. I know there will be fans say oh but what about Ross Hannah not working blah blah blah, but for us now we need to stop this culture of buying past glory names. We need to reset and come into the modern game of spotting talent and it improving the club either in the league or financially.

The recruitment is all down to Stuart and if it goes belly up, we know who's responsible. It could be a cost saving tactic, who knows, but whoever he decides to bring in and when will be on his head. There's no Abbot or Rahic to blame.
