I don't understand this though. If anything surely last season we were well over the salary cap and Ryan Sparks was very vocal on the fact Bradford wouldn't support the proposal. Now we are supposedly 400k under the cap but don't want to spend it.
McCall shouldn't need to wait for the first few games to see what we need. He sees the squad every day in training. Hes had friendlies to assess the players.
Im not sure what our plan is but it just feels all over the place.

 

Exactly why I said I'm clutching at straws - because the whole situation just doesn't make sense. Salaries, targets, competitors signing players, opportunity due to CV19, lack of squad positions are all huge question marks, yet we just seem to be sitting back and doing nothing.

I am not trying to defend them but we are only that far under the salary cap because of the average count of players signed before the cut off date. All those players will still be receiving whatever was in their contracts from before? So we may be closer to it from an actual numbers point of view than we realise. Not that it would matter to beat the salary cap but it needs paying somehow still

 

We're doing everything we possibly can to strengthen. Waiting for calls, hoping that agents get in touch with top drawer players who live nearby and will play for magic beans, reading our horoscope. Everything. Have faith.

 

Not sure if it was you who posted the Darragh Mcanthony podcast but I had a listen and when he knew Ivan Toney was leaving, he said the club would be active and not reactive and they did a deal for Johnson Clarke-Harris before the Toney one was officially announced.
That gives the fans a sense of yeah we are losing a good player but we have a plan.

Talking of delusion. I watched Keifer Moore playing for Wales last night, and had a chuckle that we even talked about signing him.

 

Just because he has money doesn't mean he has to spend it. Even with all the quality in the free market a lot of them would come here as their last choice. Personally to me it looks like Stuart wants some young blood in which i think is the best option. but the problem with this the higher clubs don't know who is excess to plans at the moment. I am expecting some decent loanees around October.

Tbf to Rahic we did that exact thing with Doyle and Wyke, the only time since the Germans arrived that I’ve been impressed as it was slick we didn’t have time to miss Wyke. Every time under Rhodes we’ve been like this, it’s no surprise. He’s a firefighter, he reacts and has never been proactive.

Im all for young hungry players coming in and looking to impress but a lot of these young lads have only been playing U23s football. The style of football is a lot different, the physicality of legaue 2 football is something they won't have experienced.
So im happy with a couple of PL loans but we can't expect them to be first team players and i still think we are short on those. What happens if Wood gets injured for a few weeks? What about Cooke or Watt? We have no backup. Donaldson won't be available all season so we will have to hope Novak and Guthrie can play 40+ games and then we have no rb and even if we did is Sutton a adequate replacement? He was used as some kind of utility back up at Scunthorpe for a couple of positions. Im trying really hard not to be negative and just enjoy the fact we are playing football again but I just feel the club is still going backwards.

 

Most league two teams are going to face all the same problems with a maximum 22 players they are going to have to rely on young players. That’s why although they are scoffed at by the usual suspects on here utility players are going to be valuable

 

Good post @Onside87 some good points only thing I would question is your last comment, surely we cant get any worse than we are at present, lets hope being able to attend games it will get rid of the negativity that seems to be hanging around our club and this forum .

 

Im not scoffing at Sutton i just doubt hes Good enough for what we need. If our squad is made up of players that Scunthorpe don't want or rate and a 21 year old from Wolves who's played 6 league games in his career then we have to question the clubs ambition to actually get out of the division.

 

This is league two yes their have been headline signings like Tom Clarke a great signing for Salford most teams recruitment hasn’t set any bells ringing. Look back over the last few years and our best players have been young loans from above if we have to wait a bit longer to get a couple of the better ones so be it
