What I am really trying to say, and it seems Rupp has a history of this - is that he seems to be a '"head in the sand" sort of guy, who plods along thinking everything is all flowers and roses, until something bites him on his bum (or someone kicks him up the bum) prompting him to address the situation. Now I'm not saying a defeat will do that, and I'm not saying a defeat will do that, but perhaps it's the only thing that will get him to open his eyes and his wallet. Or perhaps he just doesn't care. Perhaps a 4-0 will inspire him to do absolutely nothing as a 0-4 defeat.

Bolton is only a meaningless game if we win, no doubt if we lose nobody will then consider it to be meaningless as we are out of the cup.

A 3-0 defeat tomorrow everyone will be up in arms lambasting recruitment etc (not entirely without merit, but will be an overreaction)
Conversely, a 3-0 win and I bet it will be quiet on here with a few posters talking about how it doesn't mean anything (which also wouldn't be without merit).

It happens all time and its not just us or even football fans. People love negativity and controversy, that's why newspapers write s**** all the time - because it sells.
Personally I don't mind it from the fans, nothing wrong it, we pay our money and are entitled to our say - but its important that the board and management are more level headed.

In a word he got lucky that day at Shrewsbury, because Shrewsbury were worse than us on the day unable to put their chances away.

Let’s see how many of the posters on here will be calling it meaningless if we lose tomorrow. They will all be out on force lambasting as usual

I did have a big long reply for you but the dreaded green arrows got me and I'm sulking too much to type it out again.

Needless to say though, regardless of the result tomorrow everyone (maybe apart from Park) believes our squad to be at least 2 or 3 short of a genuine promotion challenge.

It's been posted many times Rupp is not a football man, I believe he will do as he said and try to get us back to where we were before their arrival but it will be under his conditions, ironically with the salary cap it could be a bit of a God send to Rupp.

Don't think he would say it publicly as sponsors and the owner etc wouldn't be happy. I think Bolton will be treating it as such aswell with their high number of new players. Just my opinion, I hope we do treat it as a competitive game as I'm looking forward to watching, but just cannot see us being ready.

Just because he has money doesn't mean he has to spend it. Even with all the quality in the free market a lot of them would come here as their last choice. Personally to me it looks like Stuart wants some young blood in which i think is the best option. but the problem with this the higher clubs don't know who is excess to plans at the moment. I am expecting some decent loanees around October.
no thats fair, the only exception to that is wood pretty sure we got him from Leicester U23s. We have had some absolute stinkers in the past though too.

Wasn't it Dicko that turned as down as he didn't want to replace Wells or something like that? Way out of our league I'm afraid, was playing Eredivisie last season.

He was as you say, is he a free agent or has he been signed, he'd hardly has anyone to compete with now, you might be correct with regards his wages but if he's not got a club who knows, not that I think Bradford City would be interested in him but to keep the thread on topic

I can understand it when he chose Wolves over us, but it was a very strange comment that he didn't want to replace Wells, almost like he couldn't have filled his boots, which I'm sure he could have done.

If we win or lose it’s not meaningless for me. A win is good and will give us a chance to earn some money potentially in the next round(s). It’s also a bit of a marker for how we can do in the first few weeks of the season.
A loss and it compounds our fears a bit for me. It’s clear we cannot sustain two games a week for around 3 months of the season which will happen this season. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded in my view. Win lose or draw we must make signings before the window shuts, preferably 4 to cover the bases and hopefully before next weekends proper curtain raiser.

I would never wish our team defeat however

There's treating it as a competitive game, and being competitive in the game. 2 different things.

We say we're treating it as a competitive game - to do otherwise would be criminal. But we dont have a right back on the books and we're clearly still short in other areas. We obviously haven't aimed to get our side together for the start of the season.

Rupp made a comment on SMc's track record in 'cup' games not long after the Millwall play-off final. Rupp (not Rahic) said that the club wouldn't be able to compete against the big spenders such as Sunderland for an automatic spot and our best hope for promotion would be via the play-offs. Despite his apparent lack of football knowledge, he described the play-offs as being akin to a series of cup games and that we'd demonstrated that cup games weren't our strength. That's when I thought SMc's remaining future with the club would be a short one.
