    Yes can't argue with that

I don't believe many expect us not to bring in two or even 3 more players. It's obvious from what we witnessed last season and results so far that the squad needs strengthening and it would be a travesty if that didn't happen. Imo even three additions may not be sufficient. The issue however is two-fold. Firstly, what will be the quality of those additions to the squad as the remaining days tick by and potential players go elesewhere? Secondly, when will the additions be brought in? I know that the transfer window doesn't close until Oct 16 but by that time we will have played 8 first team games and our season will be more than under way.

There's a lot still to be done by JR and SMc to give give us a fighting chance of promotion this season if that's really what the club expects.

Interesting at no point did MCCall say Maynard wanted to join us. They ‘talked’ that could be 5 minutes on the phone.

And why would he join us, same league, similar or worse squad, he is no doubt very well thought of at Mansfield and settled there, we probably helped him secure a few more quid.

MCCall and Bradford City just aren’t that attractive a prospect these days.

I've read somewhere the the journey times from his home to Mansfield and Bradford weren't too much different. As you allude to, it looks like he's worked himself a new deal at Mansfield out of it. Not really bothered because long term he's not what we need, you look at Peterborough and they've just sold yet another striker on for a profit in Ivan Toney to Brentford. If you are looking for the best chance of being self sufficient this is the way to go.

The same words were used to defend Kai Bruenker. They've also been used to describe people judging various others players, 99% off those have inevitably failed. I don't think it's unreasonable to judge a player so early, especially when there's other information available such as stats and the usually pretty accurate views from fans of his former clubs.

Totally agree, and given the struggles McCall seems to be openly admitting to in trying to get an experienced striker in, I'd love it if the club actually had the balls to be a bit bold and go for someone like Tshimanga.

Hopefully a heavy defeat by Bolton is the wake up call McCall and Rhodes need and we see some activity next week before first league game.

    Hopefully a heavy defeat....

We might need more signing but come on - actually hoping we get battered in the first round of the cup is ridiculous. The negativity on this site sometimes is a joke

Never want us to lose a game but something has to happen to give them a wake up call
As it stands at the minute we will get soundly beaten by a good few teams this season
All well and good saying we have scored X amount of goals pre season but these are friendlies and the opposition defence will not be fully up to speed/juniors you could argue the same with our defence but it's exactly how we finished last season and nothing appears have changed

Yeah, just a small statement of intent would do a lot to banish some of the negativity of yet another lacklustre transfer window. I use Peterborough as an example because last week they bought Jonson Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers on the back of a 1 goal in 2 season, knowing full well that Toney was going to Brentford for a big profit. Announcing the replacement first yet knowing your player is going is great PR and shows you are pro active.
We let Vaughan go and are still no nearer a replacement despite knowing for going into months now that he was leaving. Parker printing stories of talks with Maynard, irons in the fire, seeing what happens, paints a picture of a club who are just looking to survive.
Never do we do anything remotely proactive, like announce a new striker before Vaughan had gone which would have shown the club were happy to get whingers who didnt want to be here off the books whilst actively recruiting at the same time. Even if we bring players in this week it will be weeks before they are up to speed.

Clarke appears to be a back up for Pritchard... not a bad squad player to have I'd say, particularly when he's known to be a good player 'in the dressing room', loves the club, and has played at a higher level for most of his career

I doubt it, Clarke is likely to be a starter imo.

Think he needs to be a good player "on the pitch" rather than "the dressing room"
    That's the managers/Captains job
Unless he is the captain this year of course

If the players go in with that attitude they would be murdered on this site - ffs lets get behind them (at least until it does all go pear shaped!)
And I dont think getting hammered at Bolton will achieve what you want, Stuart is obviously trying to hold out for the right players and all you are advocating will likely result in options lower down our wish list joining. The ones he wants are going to take a bit of time, irrespective of whether or not we get swiped at Bolton

He is a good player on the pitch, good enough to be a squad player certainly... I was on about other qualities he brings

I don't feel he will be, at first anyway... I think the team who started at hudders is his preferred starting line up

Let's hope he has improved since his last spell here then
With or without his "other qualities"

Good point. If we are trying to convince a player to sign for us instead of a rival, seeing us get heavily walloped in our first competitive game of the season is not likely to convince them we are the club for them. Equally, the last thing we need for the players we already have is for their confidence to take an almighty battering on the eve of the start of the season proper.
