Don't get me wrong, as I said last week the club as usual hasn't covered itself in any glory since the online interview evening and the comments made then re Vaughan (and nothing happening since) - but it is obvious Stuart is holding out for specific targets and nothing is going to change that. I honestly have no idea how we will do at Bolton, neither result would surprise me - but win or lose I don't think it will change the transfer activity stance the club has made, and if it wasn't one of the targets we have been holding out for they were to suddenly bring in, wouldn't that would smack even more of having no plan and panic buying?

 

I don’t think Clarke would sign to be backup to Pritchard , he would sign to be a first team contender. Huddersfield appeared to be about fitness as much as it did starters. I guess we will soon find out.

 

I remember thinking too slow and too physically weak last time he was here, I don’t see how he shakes those attributes off.

 

If we don't know who the targets are how will we know when someone comes in that it is or isn't one of them?

 

That's often the case in football though isn't it, clubs don't like to advertise their targets for a whole range of reasons. I think we will be able to tell on this one though (striker), if in a couple of weeks a journeyman striker (a Donaldson or Novak) comes in then its fair to assume we are into double figures in the options we have approached.
I am certain it wasn't Maynard (it doesn't take 6 weeks to have a phone call to assess that it wasn't right for either party), I am fully expecting it to be a young striker from a Championship or above club as Stuart has been holding out for so long

 

No rumour but wonder if there’s any interest in Leon Clarke don’t expect him to drop to this level mind even tho he is 35. Just wondering if he’s the one who’s got a different option which McCall said about maybe abroad etc

We’ve lost all the attraction Parky brought to the club, now we’ve become a club to avoid until we sort things out at the top and regain an identity and way forward.

 

I would just be staggered if we have been holding out for so long for another ageing striker - just seems to be totally the wrong approach to simply add another 'same as' player to what we have already got

 

On the basis that under the cap the only bonuses payable are for promotion or progression in cups, I would have thought the players at least might be up for it

 

I don't think Clarke is anyones replacement. He's just a feel good factor for McCall because he wanted to come here. Back up at best - but the way we're not signing anybody, I'd say he's almost a first teamer. Sadly, I think the board have looked at the fact we've got Novak, Don and Guthrie, and decided that should be enough. I don't believe the nonsense about Maynard not wanting to travel from Mansfield one bit. He just didn't want to come here on the wages we're offering.
