Andyc - of our strikers I am not sure it is Guthrie who I am most concerned about. There is a bit on an unknown air to him and I really hope he can come good this season. I think my bigger worry is what we are going to get from the other 3 'old' boys - Novak, Clayton and Clarke

Novak should be good for 10 goals and i am still hopefull for another striker through the door. Clarke has never been the sort of player to bag a hatfull and clayton is past his best unfortunately. who knows , one of our youngsters might come good. Would'nt that be great to see.

Looking at his past career league one/two would be his comfort zone, as you say freed by Cardiff who knows.

That would be brilliant, not sure if any of them are at that stage yet but could be a 'break through' year if they can up their game a bit

Well if he was the unnamed striker that started the game for Northampton today he only lasted 15 minutes before he was forced off with an ankle injury

Bit of disrespectfull statement. Hardly say the appointment of Parkinson and all that brought is a reflection of an 'overwhelming' record of failure.

Donaldson in particular didn't look very fit against Town. Can't see him starting for another couple of weeks.

Oh no, you're quite right. I fully agree and chose my words carefully.

The appointment of Parkinson and the trust that was put in him is the only part that makes the word i used "overwhelming" rather than "absolute"

It's not disrespectful to say that Rhodes with Parkinson was amongst the best times of supporting Bradford. Rhodes without Parkinson though is an absolute horror show resulting in a record of relegations, administrations and failure that are difficult to compare to any other football club owner and therefore his continued role as silent CEO is difficult to view as a positive.

In the bigger picture he does have a poor record, wasn’t Lawn alongside him in the Parkinson era, when you look at what Rhodes has done, he has been involved in a journey that took us from the equivalent of League One and ended up with us scraping the barrel for a squad in League Two playing in a stadium we don’t own, with a disinterested silent foreign owner that he sold us down the river to.

He is not the answer. He is a penny pincher finance man that constantly screws up with the big decisions and gets his pants pulled down time after time because all he can focus on is the short term £, because he doesn’t have the nous to run a successful football club.

At most he should have been a very short term appointment of 3 months to try steady the ship.

Can't we judge a 28 year old on his career thus far? Or are we still that blinded that we're putting all our eggs in a basket that 99% of the time turns out to have no bottom?

I think Wigan had three or four trialists in their team yesterday. Stuart’s objection was testing costs £140 a go or something like that and it’s to expensive. Not as expensive as not getting a goal scorer and not getting promoted, but that’s the short termism that afflicts this club.

I could throw back at you Tony Adcock, John Mcginley, Aarron Mclean , Michael Boulding , the list is endless of strikers with good scoring records, before they signed for us. So i have tried not to judge a player on stats alone. I like to actually see a player for a few games before i make my mind up.
Gutherie is actually 27 and has scored 30 league goals in 111 appearances , for us and three other lower league clubs.
Not brilliant and as i said in an earlier post, i am hopefull that we bring in another striker but i am not going to write off a player that has hardly kicked a ball for us.

I am most worried about Guthrie.

Let's say he has some talent, a bit of ability - what was shocking was his attitude and application in his cameo last season - all absolutely in line with what we were told to expect by disillusioned Stevenage fans.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a lack of effort. If Guthrie is a 'just enough' type, we'll see a decent game followed by a bunch of anonymous performances, followed by something better, and on and on.

Obviously it's too early to say for sure that's how it will go, but all the comments I've read are 'he's not good enough to not try' and 'he doesn't try'....

    Could be a long season.

I believe Stuart has mentioned he's full on at training, I'm sure if that is not taken no to the pitch Stuart wont tolerate it.

How anyone can judge a player on 60 minutes is beyond belief yes he was poor but to judge so soon is idiotic
