The only way to make the club more saleable is success on the pitch that leads to better finances. The alternative is to starve the club of cash lose matches lose fans lose any interest there is

From the point of view of Rupp, I genuinely cannot see his sticking around, to await the fruitations of improvement on the pitch. Too much risk.

I'm not sure any new buyer would take that into consideration, the asking price would be based on where our club is at the present time, unfortunatly for Rupp we are about as low as we can be.
From a Championship play off team to a kahzi league team IMO Rupp's not a cat in hells chance of recouping his original investment.
I understand he's over today for a few days.

Instant success on the pitch costs money Park money we dont sound to have
Its a vicious circle we cant even hope for fans paying on the gate as anybody interested has already got a season ticket
Money has to come first am afraid time is against us

As this thread has wandered quite a bit (in a good way), I have amended the thread title to reflect the discussion.

I agree with you. Rupp has no affinity with VP and little emotional attachment to the club. He is not a benefactor or some potential sugar daddy. He will regard the club simply as an investment and a way of making some money and I don't attach any criticism with that. Investing more will however be a risk for him and there is no certainty that it will bring success and a higher selling price.

But I'm sure the penny has dropped that he firstly overpaid for the club and secondly he left it in the hands of somebody who has destroyed most of whatever value there was in the club. As much as he might want to recover his original investment or even make a profit on it, the reality will be nobody will pay what he wants and any offer is likely to fall well short of his own position. And I doubt very much that investing further to create a successful and potentially more lucrative club will be part of his own plans. It's just too risky. We'd better get used to that and to stop living in fantasy land.

I don't see the company going bust or as I've said in the past, being placed in Administration by Rupp. But I can see us treading water for a time until there is a firm and realistic offer on the table from some source or other, maybe involving somebody who knows the reality of our club's dilemma! And that may well force Rupp into accepting that he has to crystallise his loss and move on.

the last we heard from the club was that Rhodes is staying on, and Rupp is commited to the club for next season. as we've heard nothing since then you have to assume this is still the case. so I won't panic just yet, however the T&A article is concerning reading - if we can't compete with league two clubs financially then, to be quite honest, we might aswell just give up now.

we shouldn't be worrying that the likes of Fylde might come in for the same players as us, that is ridiculous.

Guys sorry I think I must have missed something. Has someone heard that Rupp is actively trying to sell the club or theres actual rumblings of interest in someone else buying it, or is it just speculation at this stage? Scouring Twitter and cant seem to see anything

I think he has 3 options none of them involve Rupp recouping his original investment.

    1. Plunge us into admin, loose everything and run to the hills.

    2. Invest more money in the hope of steering us into a more lucrative position. Extremely risky as nothing stands still. He could lose millions.

    3. Sell now if there are buyers around. He would probably lose millions but will receive probably 3 million at this point. If this was me I would sell and get what I could.

The only other option that has not been considered is that he invites other investors in to edge his loses, but I have no idea where he might find that kind of investment. Unless he looks to the fan base? Depends whether he is prepared to go further into football investment. The club needs to regenerate income that can only come from investment; think @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam mentioned awhile back that investment with community to build a sports village and involve the council.

I think we have been here before. Both Gibb and Tordoff have ‘owned’ the club before and the end of their tenure has been difficult to say the least.

Jack Tordoff is now 84 years old, quite an age to take on the running of the club. Neither his son or grandson have shown an interest in City, indeed they may have more in common with Rupp with their love of motor sport!

Gibb is not ‘local’. He is an Anglo Scot who lives in East Yorkshire near Kirbymisperton, and owns Flamingo Land. Apart from his brief dalliance with Richmond, and his subsequent ownership of VP (by accident), then there is little to indicate that he has any ‘bond’ with Bradford City.

    Time to move on!

To be honest I can't help feel like we've been stitched up a bit. Earlier sound bites about top 3 budgets, planning ahead, players willing to come here regardless of division, owner and Chief executive staying on and not abandoning us etc. Now they have our season ticket money its like we don't exist. Suddenly we can't compete for players with pub teams, backroom staff are leaving because we can't afford them and we've got feck all in terms of a structure off the pitch let alone on it.

The proposed fans forum will be interesting to say the least, especially if it comes after another summer of underwhelming and bargain bucket signings, which it seems the club are preparing us for.

@bantam2708@bantam2708 I feel exactly the same. I realise selling ST was always on the ‘hard to do list’ after relegation, but what we are hearing now is the opposite of upbeat. However, I imagine that the budget may be the 3rd highest ‘cough’ but that will be by enlarge paying our not fit for purpose players. GB is going to have to use some handy stitch work to get a team that fits together, and that performs how he wants.

Yep I did - I think others have mentioned something similar. I think we're a ripe opportunity for a Sports village type venture. It'd be great for both us and the Bulls, and could be a great regeneration opportunity for the City too.

If Bowyer really wanted to keep Andy Todd why didn’t he refuse to sign his new contract unless Todd got one too. I remember Parkinson doing this for his whole backroom staff.

Your 'alternative', option four would be a sound place for Rupp to go. Perhaps JR could influence him ? By inviting investors, Rupp could (over time) sell his shares 10 - 20% at a time. Whilst sharing the load, he can still recoup monies, from such sales.
@Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam and I shared the same view a few weeks ago - regarding a sports village, but further Club investors onboard would be needed to push such plans further. I doubt we'd get much from local Government, but a case could be raised (in terms of regeneration) with Central Government for a grant.
Which ever way it goes, team investment is paramount, should the Club wish to go forward, rather than stagnate, or fold.
