Wright went past their full back with ease in the first 5 minutes to create the chance that resulted in Chapman hitting the bar(when I think he should have scored).
After this I can’t really remember him doing it again with any great purpose and then Hughes switched him and Pereira over for some reason in the first half.

If you play Cook up front by himself at home then no way can you afford to have one of our most creative attacking players like Pereira only touch the ball once or twice in the first 15 minutes and barely 5 or 6 times in 45 minutes.

I think everybody knew we’d miss Walker.
I don’t think any of us realised just how much.

So if we ain't creating anything for our main striker then, I know this may sound revolutionary, maybe it's upto the players around him who are paid to create the chances for him to do their jobs? I'm all for Oliver to get a chance, that's what we've bought him for, but not at the expense of a striker who has pretty much scored every chance created for him this season. I'd rather out manager work out how to use the team to keep getting goals out of our in form striker.

100 % Andy Cook is not the problem.

We played with 10 men for the first half yesterday due to Pereira’s complete lack of any attempt to get involved in the game.He should be the player supplying Cook with chances.

We haven’t got a midfielder (not winger) who can do what Sarcevic did yesterday and surge forward from the half way line, resulting in the penalty.
There’s no way Smallwood,Gillead or Chapman are going to consistently get beyond the strikers.

Cook can get frustrated and spit his dummy out but he’s a big boy.Give some back.
I suspect he’s more frustrated with the amount of time our defenders piss about passing it sideways and our laboured approach at getting the ball forward.

Give him some decent service and he’ll score goals but we need the other 9 outfield players to do a lot more than they have done recently to help him out.

Ah, I get it now. You've developed Hanson-itis.

It's common when your team has a striker that scores goals. Couple of weeks in a dark room and abstain from football. That should get you sorted.

The biggest issue we have is not having an out ball. In all the time Cook has been here, he’s never been the forward to hold the ball up and bring others into play. 35 yards, back to goal is not getting the best out of Cook but if we persist with the current set up, his goals will dry up. Get Banks, Angol and Wright in behind and we might see the best of Cook.

It's a call that only MH can make.

I don't know how he will make the decision, but he has to.

I'm not convinced MH knows his best 11 yet.

But I think we are at a "tipping point" and if MH gets it right, happy days.

If he doesn't we are in the khazi league for yet another year.

Look through Andy Cooks entire career, he is a patch striker. He'll score in 5 of 8 games, the wont score for 6. Last season in a crap team he got 4 goals in his first 4, then didn't score for 5 games. Followed that with 3 in 6 before his injury. Came back from injury and scored 3 in 7, then finished the season with 2 in his last 18 games.

You've just got to hope when he is on good form, he bags goals like he has been because it will dry up at some point. Last season, we just kept starting him as the alternatives were largely Robinson & Lavery. We actually have options now, and Hughes has been a tinkerer through his entire career, so Cook might not get the rope he had with other managers.

Don't think it's the time to drop him yet but if he hasn't scored by maybe the time we get to November, I could certainly see Hughes giving him a bench spot for a while.

"Cook offers nothing if he doesn't score" is quickly become the biggest myth since "Rhys Evans can't dive to his left".

That just proves my long held theory of why you and The Kitchenator are never seen in the same room at the same time.

Offered absolutely nothing. Barely won a header and rarely ventured into the channels.

I can see a bid for Oliver incoming from Pep so that he can bring the other 10 into play as Haaland is a waste of a shirt when he isn't scoring hat tricks.

He doesn't hold the ball up well or make runs to split the defenders. Have makers near him and hes out of the game.

Teams are starting to think mark Cook and hes out! The rest barring Wright won't hurt us.

I think Hughes would be happy to play Angol or Oliver in the lone role of they offered more than Cook but currently they don't. We take out Cooks goals, we ain't winning games. Angol and Oliver don't offer the goal threat of Cook, and let's face it those goals win you games. I've read on here that we need to mix it up, well thats what we tried on Tuesday with subs and we looked bloody awful for it.
The trick is to get the best out of Cook.

Very fair and reasoned post. Our end of season form last year was built around the mobile attack of Vernam, Walker and Perriera with Angol taking the lone striker spot. And to be fair it clicked. Come this season, i don't think Hughes expected Andy Cook to hit that rich vein of form and quite rightly the lad has been lauded for his start to the season. We all know his limitations but those goals speak for themselves. Is he really suited to the 4-2-3-1 that Hughes so dearly favours? Well, thats up for debate. Its a very specific role but one not many strikers excel in. Its clear we haven't really clicked as an attacking unit despite Cooks goals but how Hughes changes this is a conundrum. Do we risk dropping him and his goal threat for a player who has hamstrings made of biscuits or a striker who i'm not sure what formation he fits. Even yesterday Hughes did change personnel but stuck with the same formation,Banks having a good impact while Oliver didn't really do much.

We'll have agree to disagree, for me any striker who can get 20 goal for the team is contributing, I don't understand the contributing his game is missing he closes down drops back to help out defending free kicks and corners what more are fans wanting ?, it will be interesting to see what Sparkie thinks of the situation doe's he drop Cook and bring in Oliver, sorry to say what I've seen of the lad so far he offers even less of a goal threat, or offers a better option with regards his all round game.

He'll need to be rotated so both should get game time and hopefully when they do they give Hughes a headache by playing well and scoring.

Now on 12 goals L2 goals. Has anyone noticed George Miller is just 3 behind him?

Strongly linked with him in the summer. Alot were against his return but looks like he would have been a decent option. Better than Harratt, Angol and Oliver anyway.

If Cook was offside when Eisa hit it, the deflection from the defender wouldn’t matter. He’d be offside and the goal shouldn’t have stood. In realtime, he looked a mile off, but watching the replay I think he’s just onside. The defender is pushing out and he’s closing in, so its very tight, but just on I think.
